OK, as I previously stated I'm a Tax Preparer, and I am busy as Hell for 2.5 months of the year, but I consider myself to be semi retired now.
I worked for the State of NY for 32.5 years and retired as an Audit Manager/Certified Fraud Examiner. I did audits all over the State, from Riverhead on Long Island to Glens Falls (Near the Adirondack Mtns) to Niagara Falls (Western part of the State) and caught both a Priest and a Rabbi with their hands in the cookie jar during my career.
But most of my time was spent in the finest parts of NYC ... Bed Stuy, South Bronx, Harlem and other places no sane person wanted to be. There were some locations they did not allow us to go to w/o police escort, but usually we were on our own, often in places just as bad. I identified enough different kinds of frauds that I could write a book. The biggest one was in Brooklyn and about $20 million/yr had been going south for several years, all paid for with fraudulent Medicaid Billings. I got to the bottom of it, working alone, in about two weeks. The IG's office had 8 people assigned to it for over 3 months and they had nothing! Their lead auditor requested that I train them, which did nothing but piss off their higher ups and my higher ups cause they were the ones that were supposed to have the expertise in this area.
I notice most of the people here have a main job plus a side job or two, as I always did also. No slackers here, part of what make this such a good site. Also, a lot of different backgrounds brings in a great pool of knowledge, great to see.
