@brshephard contacted me about making his old 450 more adjustable and this is what I came up with.

Independent horizontal and vertical adjustment via two slots and a custom puck.

First step. Slot the arm.

Step three: Make slider puck.

Now you loosen the left handle to slide for/aft for the closeness to stone adjustment. Loosen the right for vertical chain corner to stone corner adjustment.

Sweet! Your work is amazing.

On the 451C, the slot has a slight rake in the fore & aft slot. It changes the underside top plate angle for different types of cutting i.e. faster or more durable edge. I suppose you could angle your slot pretty easily?

Edit to add: I guess you can achieve the full range of adjustment with a straight slot if I am looking at it correctly.

It’s pretty much the same. The slot in the 451C is trying to follow the angle of the cutter but in all reality the for/aft adjustment is for stone wear which you won’t adjust often. The vertical and the chain guide are the major two.

Nice work Shaun, can't wait to try it out!:headbang:

I left the chain paws upside down but I did regrind them. With them upside down they contact the back of the cutter about mid height which might help keep the cutter from tipping up when grinding. If you are not getting consistent cutter length due to variations in the chain where it's contacting I'd flip them over so they contact at the back base of the cutter like normal.

See how they are oriented in this picture I stole from someone else on the site.

Great, I think that will work much better to keep that cutter heel held down.

SimingtonBlue%20wheel.JPG I like cutter teeth with a nice square ass! I was wondering about those pawls being 180 out from mine o_O

Nice looking 450.

I'm not sure if those pawls came that way or if the previous owner changed them.
It's pretty old though, I think the serial number is in the 700's. He might've worn the originals out.

All the extra adjustability is just awesome.
I can even grind rakers and gullets.

Here it's setup to grind rakers

And here I can grind the gullet
