I recently scored this 2012 2500hd.
Needs a transmission, along with a grocery list of other stuff.

158k miles, the truck spent it's life pulling fertilizer spreaders.
I will pick away at it here and there and when my oldest turns 16 in a year and a half, she will have a pretty decent truck to drive by then.
That’s awesome. My daughter just turned 15 today and I need to find her a car soon.

Nice! What engine does it have? My Daughter is 11 right now, going on 23... The neighbors have a '66 C-10 short stepside with a 83 and a 4spd that I'm trying to talk them out of. I figure that would give me enough time to get in in safely functional order, plus I have a built 307 with 327 heads and flat top pistons looking for a good home. I figure with an HEI distributor, a bit warmer cam, and either a good set of roller rockers, or higher arched flat tappets, it ought to be a good runner. A simple 600 CFM with vacuum secondaries, or Holley EFI system would round it out.

It has the 6.0 gas engine.
6l90 trans. Its a base model, manual shift t-case, rubber floor. Power windows and locks though.
With the regular cab she cant stuff it full of her friends either, so thats a plus.

Wouldn’t a locking tonneau cover with you being the key holder be easier and better for resale?

Won’t you need some access to the bed to add the winter ballast?

Resale is over-rated. Plus, that's custom, so adds value..
Uni-bit for the win. Pour in sand. Done.
Makes the best muff mods, should work in this situation too.

If you mean don't lift it and turn it into truck rice, don't worry. The truck is staying the way it is.

Thanks for the welcome.

I meant a quote from the movie Joe Dirt. I thought you would have caught that being its your namesake.

What's wrong with the 6l90? I thought they were generally pretty solid trannys.

265 FTW !!!! Kids car remember ;)

Good point.

Zero when I weld a panel across the top of the box and burn the tailgate shut.
Just take the whole bed off.

I imagine a life of hauling heavy *s-word will take its toll.

For the most part they are.
Torque converter failed, it was a company truck so the cowboy just kept going until it was fubar.
158,000 miles of pulling 5 and 6 ton tandem axle fertilizer spreaders with some total clowns behind the wheel is solid!

Behold View attachment 241595the mighty 4.3 5spd
I grew up on an '87 Scottsdale withe the pre-vortec 4.3/700R4 in two wheel drive. For being an underpowered slug with no front assist, it did A LOT of work for Dad and I. Even rebuilt, that engine was only a "townie" model, and with either 3.55 or 3.73 gears, it didn't do well with trailers... Now, if it would have had either a 350, or a well built 265 or 292I6, that would have been different. 305's were ok, but not much better than the 4.3, in a work truck, in those years. I'd take a Dodge 318 ANYDAY over them.

This one's got the 3.42 :( and growing up we had a 76 Dodge and man that 318 was sweet.

250, 3 spd on the column, and 2.73 gears FTW. :campeon:
