I can say after treatment systems suck. Especially the cold wrap!! This is bolted to the top of a Komatsu dozer engine. Have to take it off just to work in the engine bay.

Have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 (Hemi - 4x4)
Need struts for the front for sure, possibly buy shocks also for the back.
Prefer to buy the spring/strut complete (if that's the right terminology).
Need to know a reputable brand/source. Probably will purchase on the net.
Thanks in advance.

We use monroe with good results. Make sure you buy the mount bushings and bolts that hold the strut to the control arm. They are always sized up good.

Well our big hammer got loaded on a lowboy today headed to my buddies shop. It’s engine overhaul time. 2005 with a C-15 accert. Just over 900,000 on the clock.

Why is their no love for the cat?

The employees thinks the truck is old and should be scrapped.

They love Cats but don’t want to do the maintenance.

Then the trucks get run down, then break down, then they hate it. Too many issues.

This Ford was pretty run down but I kept giving it a lot of TLC a little by little over time.

Then it became a good truck again. Better than any new emissions truck.

That’s a nice looking truck.

I’m currently rebuilding a 2005 Freightliner classic that has a C15 ACERT.

It’s got over 1.4 million k on it. The head cracked from the previous driver running it low on coolant several times and kept driving it.

Also, I’m keeping the twin turbos and the 18 to 1 compression pistons instead of going through the troubles of converting to a single turbo.

Got ya, we have the same problem on the presses at work.

People thought it was funny when I didn't want to move to the new one. Now they know why.

Same could be said with me as well.

We have a 1968 JD lawn tractor that I’ve mowed the grass for 30 years on.

I share the house with my mom.

She wants that lawn tractor gone and a new one to cut the grass. Apparently the old one will break down and the lawn will never get cut while it’s off for repairs.

I said no. New ones are junk.

That was 10 years ago....

It has not broke down at all.

It’ll drink bad gas and still run. The MS260 chainsaw won’t run on that gas but the lawn tractor will drink it happily.

I could have a stroke with the whole engineered obsolescence theory that seems to run everything these day.

The 2005 Freightliner (I think classic) with C15 ACERT two turbo Cat.View attachment 248628

Can’t wait to drive it again. Too busy at the moment to finish up the engine overhaul

Looks like a FLD 120. Good lookin truck yet. We just got our western star back about 2 months ago too. It was overhauled as well. 12.7 Detroit with 1.1 million on it. Detroit’s obviously quite a bit cheaper to overhaul then Cats.

I’m not sure what the prices are to over haul a Detroit if we did it. So far we are around $8,000 into this BXS ACERT engine.

We are using a Mahle Kit and a rebuilt head.

The last Cat, a 3406B that I rebuilt costed about $10,000 when it was finished.

$3,500 for the Mahle kit (I think)
$500 to check the head and lap the valves
$5,000 for the mechanical injection pump rebuild.

So these freightliners are called FLD 120’s?
The classic would be the ones with the front axle forward I think?

I put a battery in it and it fired right up. The primary and secondary clutches are working fine. It has no rear wheel drive, but the front works... which means probably a broken gear or shaft in the trans. It doesn’t seem to be making any weird noises or anything.

So I need to get the transmission out and opened up to see what parts I will need. Not sure when I will have time for that!
