Do you wear a mask with all the metal grinding you do?
The other day I was grinding cast iron pipe not wearing a mask and my
Nose literally felt like it was on fire on the inside. My sinuses were clogged with iron filings and it was extremely painful for at least 6 hours afterward. It’s happened to me before with copper dust from cleaning pipe as well.
Point being I have a full face respirator with me now .

Do you wear a full face R when you work all day on porting/muff mods?

I wear an n95 when using Chinese cutoff wheels. They probably have cancer causing stuffs in em. But I don’t wear anything when just running a burr.

I feel like thats probably a really good idea using any grinding wheels or cutting disks regardless of origin. Any epoxy used on them is likely not good for ya lol

I’ve often wondered what is in a muffler gasket. Asbestos? Lead?

I hate wearing masks but for abrasives you’re a fool not to. I don’t wear one for burr work either. I’m working on a vent system to draw particles at the grinding stations. Hopefully it will help with the mess.

Did the muffler on my 039 i just rebuilt. Its pretty open. You can see the fire in the cylinder through the pipes in the dark. It is way snappier then it was befor. It was kinda lazy but its also not broke in. Only made a few cookies befor the muff mod.
She cuts good now though.

Muffler and cover for my Redmax G450. Fist time using silver solider, it was tough at first but I got it in the end. It would have been a lot easier if I had a smaller torch tip.

The X-Torq mufflers here have a baffle in it that's straight forwards to remove.

This is what it looks like removed before you stick the spinny thing in there and smooth it out:

There's loads of room in the chassis to clear louvres, especially under the raised hood of an XT. If I can keep it simple and not have to fabricate or braze anything, I'm all for it. This mod makes it a three port:

Don't have to be pretty, to be effective............No welder needed, just a scrench and a bashing device. This gem was on a recently acquired 372XP 20210830_053841.jpg
