Today I attacked my most hated muffler... the 026.

My 026 was one of the first saws I modified and I had opened up the front cover a LOT.
It never ran great and would cover the front of the saw in black crap.

I bought a Chinese muffler and ground the front cover to fit the OEM back half.
Braised a pipe outlet on the chain side and a @Red97 deflector on the clutch side.
Tune went from 15000 to 15700 and will go further when I get it out to tune it in some wood.

Had Benol in it which I have ditched as it was spooging it.

Thanks mate.
Im going to do the same with my 024.

The benol got tipped out. I mixed it up for something else for some fun and cause I like the smell, and used what was left in this to get rid of it.
It goes ok in bigger hotter saws but the little saws don't like it

I appreciate all the posters reviving this thread from time to time. I started this thread because the muffler is one of very few pieces on a saw that can be personalized. The way you guys do the mods are unique, and everyone has their own style.

Thanks for making this thread great guys

038S Muffler Mod -- Tried to think out of the box since I do not have the equipment for tig and brazing. Antique window latches - one brass one cast iron - both cleaned up and shaped with a file. Gutted the muffler and dual ported. For some reason this 038S only has a single port muffler. Left the brass shiny for fun.

Before:

After gut and cutting openings: I did go about 1/3 larger on the recoil side.

Sorry post is so jumbled. Having a rough time attaching files. They will not load correctly.

Ready for install after I match the port. (got excited and had to paint) Deflectors held in place with brass screws and nuts then peened in place from the inside.
