I have a few "good" axes. I have an older Stihl that is a rebranded Oxhead. It is the smaller axe like loggers use. It is my felling wedge axe. Makes a good camp ace and it stays in my truck. I have two Fiskars, one X27 and a camo axe. Good axes and the 27 splits like a dream, but I like wood and steel. I also have a Council Velvicut, an old Plumb double bit, and a Gransfors Bruks felling axe. The bushcraft world has made it hard to find good, old axes online. I enjoy bushcraft as well, but the bearded hipster type buys them as decorations instead of working tools.
Which one of thoso is your favorite?

Honestly depends on what I am doing. My most used is the Oxhead Stihl because it's in my truck all the time. When I go hunting, I usually ditch the truck saw in lieu of more gear storage so that little axe has kept me from having to go to plan B when a tree was across the road.

The Velvicut is a great splitter, but I forgo it for the Fiskars because if I break a handle, they will warranty it!!!

So my favorite two would be the Stihl and X27. I have a feeling the Hoffman will be once I bring myself to use it. Take a look at them if you haven't, they are hand forged (he uses a press now) and handles are hand made. Just not sure I can bring myself to whack a tree down with one right of the bat!

It's a good axe, but part of being a favorite would be using it A LOT. Don't get me wrong, it is a tool and I use it, but it usually stays in the garage hung on the wall. I just don't risk leaving it at a tree, someone abusing it, etc. It was given to me as an award by a conservation organization so I didn't choose it. I would probably use it more if it was a smaller axe or a splitting axe.

I use the Husqvarna splitting ax that Steven gifted me quite a lot.

I have tried to find one to look at. The dealers around here think it is silly to sell axes. Our Stihl dealer had the Oxhead axe in the back. Said it sat on the shelf for a year so he just put it up.

The Husky axes are made by Hultafors , they are a great axe for the money and every bit as good as any Swedish axe .

Decent day out so I'm going to fire up the ol coleman stove and make a batch of beeswax/linseed/turpentine for coating axe handles and waterproofing boots .

I thought they were. They are good axes. It is hard to come by a good axe without spending a fortune. Liam Hoffman hardens the poll so they can be used to pound with if needed. He forged some beauties.

I think both Stihl & Husky have high quality axes/mauls/hatchets. They are not rubbish they put their logo on & triple the price, I think some of the forestry products are some of their best value stuff. P.S...I want friends that give meh husky axes & stuffs.

It's a popular mix for waterproofing boots , canvas and treating axe handles and the like . Also great coating to protect the axe heads from rust .
You mix 3 even parts of beeswax , linseed oil and turpentine . I like to mix 1/2 raw and 1/2 boiled linseed oil together myself plus a bit of lemon oil as well .
Lots of how to vids on you tube . It works great !
I have a bee keeper not too far from me I get it as well as other honey products from . The meed is great !!
Works well as a wound salve on farm animals too .

My father in law surprised me with this. He had some leftover walnut so he thought this would be something I would appreciate. I think it's amazing.

Just gave my handles a coat of that beeswax , linseed oil and turpentine mix I made up . Likely not the best idea to do it in the house but I'm sure it'll keep my sinuses clear for a while...hahaha !o_O
Have a nice sheen to them , I think it will protect and feel comfortable when using them .
