Council tool makes some really nice axe heads I don't have one of their doubles as I have a few older nice double bits but I have 2 of their 5# single bits one on a whisky river 30c and the other on the factory handle and also a 6# and an 8# fire axe made by them.

I didn't even know of council until I found that orange axe in daddy's old building and found out from you guys that it was a council made in NC so then I started reading about them. Interesting story, still family owned since 1886. I've never really been an axe guy, just used one when I had to. I've recently gotten in to learning about the different patterns and when they originated. When I saw that phantom bevel double bit michigan I knew i had to have it. I was also looking at that 6 lb fire axe or forcible entry as they call it. I was wondering if it would be a good splitting axe or would a maul be better.

Council is my first choice - USA made and not $$$.

I like a curved handle for splitting. The 7 will split more better than the fire axe 6. I’d run the 6 unless what I was splitting was tough.

Actually I don't split much at all as I'm getting older and more arthritis affecting my strength and mobility. I just start reading and wanting stuff that I don't really need. My mind says I want a 7 lb maul but my body won't be able to handle it. I figure 5 lbs would be about all i could handle. The Wood we have here is mostly maple, yellow pine, poplar, red and white oak. The majority of it is hard to split with a 3.5 lb jersey axe which is what I have. I've heard good things about the fiskars x27 and just wondering how they compared to the council 5 lb splitting axe.

Actually, if you want a council splitter, I have one. I have their wedge banger and splitter which are the same head, just long handle on the splitter.

Well, you want it with or without a handle? Cuz somebody broke it. They come with a straight handle but I'd go curved.

Well after some thinking, I'm having wrist surgery next month and I'll be out of work for 3 months so I probably shouldn't be spending unnecessary money right now and I won't be able to use it anyway. If you still have it after that time maybe we can work something out.

Picked up this ax head a couple of days ago. It does not appear to have been used yet.
Does not look to have had a handle attached yet either.

Same gauge here. And Wisemen Trading has been great to deal with. Really good company. Never saw the kittens there though. Will have to pay better attention next time.

If anybody has a busted 8lb Fiskars splitting maul head they want to sell and not warranty. Id love to try and fit it with a wood pick handle and see how it swings. Id pay a reasonable price & shipping to 18951

No!
My DragonSlayer does a better job than that contraption, is safer to use & doesn't need to be reloaded nor costs a shotgun shell for each swing.

But @davidwyby may consider something like that for splitting his desert Euc.
Though I would use nail gun or cattle gun shells.
Most likely 9mm cattle gun shells as those can be had over the counter and they come in different strength charge loads (green, yellow, red, black).

I've been lookin' to build myself a nice wedge-banger on a 26" miners handle, and came across this Gransfors Bruk head weighing ~4.25lb.

Do y'all know what pattern this is considered? Ideally I was looking for more of a rafting axe, with the larger Poll for wedge strikes. This specific head looks to be a bit askew/deformed in the poll region though... It does have some meat left, to square everything up, it seems.
