Hardest damned wood in New England... you can run a 8 but your cutters won’t last very long. Especially in winter when it’s frozen.LOL. The shag bark grab hold of the cutters?
And right there you have the reason why raw numbers off a page or a calculator don't always add up, they can only give reference points to where things should/could be based on a calculation.Saw had PLENTY of power, and I used a round filed freshly sharpened. Everything sounded the same. Only when I timed the cuts did I notice that the 7 pin was just a tick faster.
I was very surprised.
Just cuz you sharpened the chain don’t mean it’s right for the saw, sprocket, or wood.Saw had PLENTY of power, and I used a round filed freshly sharpened. Everything sounded the same. Only when I timed the cuts did I notice that the 7 pin was just a tick faster.

Was this one right, this works great in the summer in hard dry ash, no problem getting a couple tanks out of it.Just cuz you sharpened the chain don’t mean it’s right for the saw, sprocket, or wood.
Yikes!!!Was this one right, this works great in the summer in hard dry ash, no problem getting a couple tanks out of it.
Didn't last but one cut in the same wood when frozen, the weakest of the cutters were damaged in random spots around the chain on both sides.

Well...Help me out here. What's necessary for chain to work better with 9 pin?Just cuz you sharpened the chain don’t mean it’s right for the saw, sprocket, or wood.
You better off using semi chisel in this stuff?Hardest damned wood in New England... you can run a 8 but your cutters won’t last very long. Especially in winter when it’s frozen.
Smaller woodWell...Help me out here. What's necessary for chain to work better with 9 pin?
Ohio wood lol.Smaller wood
Is that saw ported, I'm not thinking it would pull an 18" with an 8 pin in hard seasoned oak well with the rakers set the same as for a 7, rakers need to be tuned to the whole setup. The wood I tested with did pretty much bury the 18" bar. It was dried Hard Red Oak.
Thank you sir.
Oh YES. MOFO 036!Is that saw ported, I'm not thinking it would pull an 18" with an 8 pin in hard seasoned oak well with the rakers set the same as for a 7, rakers need to be tuned to the whole setup.
You gain chain speed and loose torque.
Oh YES. MOFO 036!
Chain was a tad aggressive.
Yikes!!!
What chain is best in winter when wood is frozen? Semi chisel?
That’ll buff right out...Was this one right, this works great in the summer in hard dry ash, no problem getting a couple tanks out of it.
