New saw. Finally getting some time on it. Needs a few minor tweaks, but it’s a beast.

Good gawd!! Seems you could take about 1/8-1/4” off the rakers.


I’d love to know the hp on one of those.

I made some timed cuts a few days ago. Same bar and chain, same piece of test wood. The 7 pin was faster than the 8 pin. I was confused.
When would an 8 pin be faster than a 7 pin? I was cutting a dry piece of red oak.

I ran a 7 both stock and ported for an even comparison. Chain is round ground that I've tested the last 4 or 5 Huskies on. Haven't sharpened it in awhile

Yep. Takes enough torque and a good chain. Square chain makes a difference too. A good square chain with an 8 will be faster on some 70cc saws with a short bar. All depends on power, sharpness, amount of wood, and hardness of wood

That last part can mess things up running an 8 pin if the rakers aren't just right, once she starts to bounce in the cut what you've gained in chain speed can be lost quickly. I think square has an advantage in this area because it's smoother in the cut.

Saw had PLENTY of power, and I used a round filed freshly sharpened. Everything sounded the same. Only when I timed the cuts did I notice that the 7 pin was just a tick faster. ‍
I was very surprised.
