On an inboard clutch saw I hang the chain on the bar and put it all on together. Much easier than fighting and outboard clutch with a tensioner that you can't get to while the saw is laying on its side. Different strokes for different folks I guess but in the 20+ years the 394/5 has been around, you'd think somebody at husky coulda figured out a side chain tensioner.

Yeah I still think the tensioner on a 372/390 is better thought out.

You’d think they would put air injection on a 661 when they have it on there farmboss 271? I really like everything else about it however.

I’m not a fan of the front tensioner setup to adjust tension on the go, but the huskies are easier to put a bar on than a stihl in my experience. The way a stihl tensioner is you have to take the bar off to get to the screw to get the bar on the pin if it’s off by a lot. Especially switching different bar setups. The 395 is easier to put a long bar on because the outboard clutch holds the bar on so you can get the chain on and not mess around trying to hold the bar on from falling off. The side tensioner huskies with it in the cover you use the side cover to hold bar on and you screw the tensioner till it lines up and put screws on tension chain done.

The problem is the tensioner being in the cases. I prefer the 372/390 style being in the clutch cover. Faster to put a bar/chain on and simple to repair the tensioner. Not many moving parts.

I like the 372/390 also. Same as a 7900. They're all better than a 346

I don’t like the 346 tensioner either. I hear of guys putting 455 clutch cover on them to get rid of it.

I don’t see how it would be too hard to redesign a side tensioner for the 395 thinking about it... the 371 changed to a side tensioner on 372. Just need a new clutch cover?

I have run across this Joe. Had a MS 460 I fixed for a tree guy that would not keep muffler bots, even with normal Loctite. After the saw returned to me 3 times in a month, I put them down with the HD Loctite, and it has not come back since.

Also, my personal MS 440 spit the muffler bolts after that had no problems for about 2 years. Very strange, but I put them back in with the HD stuff also. Was so glad neither saw ate any of the bolts.

The last two times I put them in with red Loctite, still came out. The helicoils are going in with green this time.

My Stihl should be sponsored by Heli-Coil. Lol

I've been using the "High Strength" Threadlocker Red. Never had anything come loose after I used it, but you can still remove them if you have to. (It is Permatex)

Ported an 088 for post rip racing here in Aus.
Very happy with the results.... chain needs some work but it hauls arse in super hard timber

here is a good demonstration of how hard the timber is here
chain has dome no work between this video and the ones in the above video.
It got so hot cutting it was smoking up the bar oil
chain was wet and hosing oil of it,

325 with a 10 tooth

That stuff is probably 3 times harder than oak..... maybe more.
Its the sort of timber you need to pre drill to even hit a nail into

455/460 rancher clutch cover is the only way to go on the 346 and 357 family of saws! I hate those factory ones, they SUCK!
