272 coils are still available through husqvarna. And yes, unlimited
Cool, the 7310 I had seen the video of was I believe big1066's ,it impressed me.
I wouldn't do that swap without porting also, which I know nothing about, but appears to offer significant gains.

I guess I was asking if you ported a saw, is it worth the coil swap in a hot work saw and do you give up much reliability?

Has there ever been a thread about that coil swap?

That 7310 was mine. I ported it.
It's worth it in a ported saw, as now they want to turn more rpm. And with the original coil, the only way to really tell is by plug color or tuning the saw while cutting. That's not easy with a 7900, unless the tuning grommet has had some work done to it.

The 272 isn't known to have faulty coils that I know of. I'd say they're at least as dependable as the dolmars limited coils

So back to my original question, if a feller wanted to upgrade a 6401or 6421 is that something that you'd consider , even if the coil was more than you have time for, some port work is needed.
I knew that you ported the 7310, I didn't know it belonged to you. I am also in the market for a couple/few clean 64XX take off piston &cylinder if you or anyone you know has some in the scrap pile...

Like on one of my 6401's , and my 7910's are slightly less rpm correct? Flywheels the same? Or required to remain matching set with coil?
I'm not sure if the later ones work with the new flywheels. I've heard both ways but never mixed and matched. The new 6400s still had a 13.5k coil or whatever it limits to. I've seen 13.6k with them for a second.

I have my cylinder and piston from the 6400 and also the coil off it. P&C are new.

Finally got to make some cuts with my 346! Been really cold here and I have had some issues. Finally got it figured out after talking with Joe @Onan18 on Thursday. Have had three carbs and two coils on the saw in the last two weeks. Ends up I probably didn't tighten down the flywheel nut enough. It spun and sheared the key. Made its first cuts today and runs pretty good!

What's all done to this saw? OE p/c? What about mm...has a nice tone to it:D

I used a new OEM decomp p/c with the decomp plugged. I believe the NE is 44.3mm and 50.1cc. It has a gasket delete, timing advance and a custom pipe muffler. It has the 359 intake tract on it but still running the smaller Zama EL51 carb. It has a OE top cover and I powdered the grey clutch cover Orange. I do like the sound it has. The video was the first cuts made since the new top end went on.

I did one for @Armbru84 a few weeks ago, and this is my 2nd one. Took me a few hours the 1st time to get it close. I bought a timing light to check where it was. This one took a few hours also, as I wasn't worried about damage to the saw caused by running it with too much advance, and I was doing timed cuts in that 3 hours. It takes a few hours just getting the coil to fit, too. But now I could get it right in a half hour or so
Hmmmmm

I remember Mike said he didn't like it with the unlimited one. So he put the stock back on
I put the original stock 7900 coil on it..
Produces more power now..

I have a theory as to why, but it's probably wrong..

All I know is tuned to max of coil is not a good tune.. Must go way the Fuk beyond that.
It cuts just below that 13.700 in wood.

13.7k under load sounds impressive.

If nothing else the limited coil will keep the engine from revving too high without load.

I believe specs claim 13.5k for the 6400/7300/7900, and 12.8k on the 7310/7910.
I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time either.

Any videos of that PS-7900 of Yours?! :)

Look for vids of the Iowa GTG.
I don't do you tube any more.

When I say under 13,700 it's closer to 12,900 or 13,000, but good luck getting a tach to read it.
