No it wasn't useless, it was well put in my opinion.

Well thank you,
I have found that many are only looking for a deal, no matter the cost to others, myself included at times in the past... and do not consider the value of others time.
In my opinion, when other ask for “side work”, at a deal of course... they do not consider that this is time that is a premium, after the normal work week, and thus should be at overtime rate not a discounted rate.
This time would otherwise be spent with family and friends, which we all need and deserve.

If I go do "side work" that means you aren't paying the rate you would get from my boss.

He comes to your house and your paying his overhead and all that comes with it, If I come myself naturally you aren't paying all his bills...just mine, which are a fraction of his.

If someone was gonna pay me a premium to take a tree out of their yard they may as well wait til Monday and just hire the company and get the whole deal.

If I come work for a Saturday and make 300 bucks to cut your tree down I made out pretty damn good, he has to do it for 1000, otherwise he won't be in business too long.

So far I haven't been convinced there's anyone actually charging that.

He does, Stevie Billow has a video on his channel on the sale of his 461 discussing jacks prices and also how he personally feels about the guy and his business practices...

I think this is it.

I understand what your saying. "Side work" to me is doing a job and cutting out the middle man. Most of the time meaning your boss. If I'm going to help a friend I never ask for, or expect any type of payback other than they offer to do the same if I need help.

Agreed! When I help friends I expect nothing back.
But you should still make more in your premium time than at work when “ working “ for others.

I had that exact video in mind when I made the comment. He's trying to sell the saw in a competitive market area, and I won't believe it unless I hear insane0 himself say it or see where he wrote it.

Perhaps you value your friends time a bit low?

Think about what you make with benefits in the union. And then as an ace at your job when you have your license. As a foreman, project manager, etc...Are not these men worth that as a minimum. They are specialists in their field. In my opinion they are doing all of us a favor at the rates they charge.
This is a hobby for me. I can lose money and still smile... which is where I’m at.
But those that rely on this to support themselves and their loved ones... I’m not so sure they make what they should.

I agree with you to an extent...300 or greater for a port job is quite a lot of money compared to the initial cost of, say a ms261.

Since you don't wanna believe it...email him about his levels and what they cost. :)

And I'd bet my balls a saw you port will cut with or out cut his most expensive port job.
