Be sure to do a before and after video. Do a few cuts and leave some on the same log if you can.
Sounds good, 372xp vs 044 later today if I got time. Then a vid of advanced 044 vs 372. They both got 20" bars. I will put 7 pin sprockets on both as 372 has a 8 pin. Tune em both to 14k. Chains are about equal (both full chisel). I'll sharpen and set rakers slightly agressive. Only thing is mine is a 52mm 372 with no base gasket/muff mod, slightly unfair. But 044 has a duel port cover and hd2.... We'll see.

Nice Mason! Cool.
I really am not familiar with Husqvarna sizes, but are these saws similar or comparable in size?
Stock 372 is 71cc like 044 but mine is a big bore, (52 vs 50mm) so it's same displacement as a 460. However the big bore isn't as good quality as a oem casting, mine is a strong saw however with simple mods I did to it, if 044 can beat mine it can beat a normal stock 372. Should be a good ballpark compare. This 372 beat a stock 576 I had by about 3-4secs in a 18" log. I timed them. I think a 576 is a little ahead of a standard 372.

Normally, the 044 can beat the 372 in unported form, but the 372 will win ported. With AM big bore, too many variables. But I will tell you this, I think the new generation of hybrids will be very tough to beat, especially with a long bar. (28").

Just tuned them. Both 4 stroke to almost 15k. I agree on too many variables but this will be interesting as a rough ball park. Im just gonna leave the 8 pin on the 72, I can put it on 044 tommorow.

Did you shave the 044 key?
If 8° of timing is added then it should be around 36° of timing if I'm right

I was going to but I am going to do a before and after video. This 044 suprised me when I tuned it by ear 14,800 it was still four stroking. I set them both at 14k to be fair. I guess the factory reccomended 13.5k goes out window when you mod them.

is coverage of me running it against @MustangMike 's 044 but it wasn't fair because I think Mikes had whatever is Stihl equivalent of a 28" bar on it ... I had Mike run each saw also but I don't think I have video of that.

I had been using it the day before, and never even had time to clean the air filter. Also, the saw was very hard to start that day, and after the GTG I changed the fuel filter, air filter and plug. It will run better this year!

We will get those saws together again Mike. I'm sure Mason will be interested in comparison with the one he has too.

Wow this was one angry 044. I was not happy with the 372s chain however. Both timed very close. About the same 12 sec cuts for each, very nasty knotty red oak trunk. I'll get another vid with a better chain on 372. The 372 you could push on harder
