I ran the 290, 660, and the 441 today with the same bar and chain. It was the chain that was on the 290 in the other video and it had not been touched. Then I also ran the 25'' bar and chain I had on the 441 from the 290 vs 441 video and it had not been touched since the video either to show it was not dull. The results confuse me. I'm almost thinking that you will never know what saw is the fastest. I've heard that this saw is faster with a 20'' bar and another is faster with 32'' but I think that can ever vary from soft to hardwood. I'm still not done messing with this saw. I feel like there is more left in it.

If you watch the original video the 441 gets passed about halfway through the log. Maybe I was not loading the 290 as much as my Dad was and that is why the results are different????

Looks like your chain is dull

Just differences in an operator can change times a lot. There are so many variables when comparing saws. You could do this test 10 times with 10 different results

It is tough to get consistent results cutting wood.

Dyno data anyone? I'd love to see plots from GTG's where we can take the operator out of the equation and compare models from different builders. Let's get to the nitty gritty #'s just for curiosity sake. Feel in my hands is most important, no doubt about it. There is so much objective opinion. When we had a mini gtg here @ my place, a modded 357 was tenths behind an 044. I'd love to know how much of that was variables.

Even with dynos there can be variables. A guy on a car forum used to say we don't race dynos, we race cars. The same can be said about saws. It could be possible for a lower HP saw to out cut a higher hp saw. It depends about the power curve and what RPM it makes its power.

I'm just talking about the hp figure and torque. Take the driver out of the equation(and chain and wood etc)...

How so, if you're looking at peak hp and torque numbers?
If one saw makes 7hp @ 7,000rpm it and another makes 7hp @ 10,000rpm, the two will not perform the same. The making power at 7,000rpm will have more torque.

A saw making most power at 7k would be a stinker.

to me the idea of porting is to raise max power to a higher rpm, after all without rpm a saw is useless.

We talk about tourqe but a saw is a hp engine, take one saw That's 6ftlbs of tourqe at 9k then another just like it but it's making 6 ft lbs at 11k,the 11k saw with more hp will destroy the 9k saw.
Tourqe is great in a saw but without hp you just have a slow saw.

That was just an example to make a point.
