462 in oak. 20” bar and 8T Mofo’d. Shoulda plunge cut the Fugger.

The Grapple sagged down with the machine off and pinched me at the cut ends. Oh well.

The 462 has quickly become my favorite all around worksaw. Easy to start, never gotta tune. Light with good AV and very fuel efficient. Had to help a friend with a few downed trees and looked at job before unloading. Filled the 462 and then carried my oil and fuel containers in after guesstimating the job. 3/4 of a tank was all it took.

It’s a great design.

First cuts after new bottom end bearings, still tuned fat, and I am going to have to drop the rakes a bit, it feels pretty good, but needs some tweaking! It’s maple, and decent size, this is just some limbs, so will have plenty of wood to get it broke in an tested. Will definitely need to bust out the Big Macs to finish up the job!

Is that a 28“ bar?
Tree must be really big when the limbs have 25-28 diameter:)

Yes it is a large blow down, we had recorded East
Wind, on the west coast that’s bad! Lol

Its a maple that grew as a double from early on, both trunks are 42” each. Yes is a 28” bar

When the limbs are big Mike. Lol
Especially after running a big McCulloch to fell the tree. A 660 must feel like an 026.

BUT I'm no "PRO" so maybe one of them will chime in.
Ha ha, that’s true! Honestly I was just trying to get some running time on the 660, taking it for a test drive make sure there was no issues. It’s honestly still 70cc territory, And I was running the 461 as well, but I figured I’d give the 660 a run before I was done for the day, the interesting thing is the 660 with the 28” light bar feels very similar to the 461 with a 28” standard bar. The Big Macs aren’t too bad, they are almost identical in weight to an 880 or 3120, may even be a half pound lighter. The 660 with 28” light dose feel like a feather after running a Mac with 50” bar!

I have about 15 running saws and the 660s are my big ones … used for milling or bucking with 36" bars, or for noodling rounds (w/24" bar) that are too large to lift into the splitter (it is much faster to noodle than to go vertical with the splitter).

My 261 V II would likely float into the clouds in your hands!

This was Dean and Mitchell at the Halifax County Antique Machinery Festival a couple years back and it was nice solid Oak they were cutting. Dean's saw won.

I saw where this was cancelled this year due to Covid. Any news on whether it will reopen in 2021.
Looks like a great event.

Are the MS660's you are running the clone saws (China) which you have modified? Or Stihl OEM variety you have acquired?

Yes!!! It gets complicated!

I have an all OEM ported 066 flat top. I have an OEM 066 round top with a Cross P+C on it (not ported) that was in the HL Supply video. I have an Asian 660 that had an OEM 066 jug on it, I pulled the jug, plan to port it, and put it on the OEM 066 chassis.

At the same time I will pull the Cross P+C, port it, and put it on the Asian 660 chassis.

I also currently have 2 other Asian 660s (both with port work) and a ported Asian 660 Big Bore.

I also have an OEM 660 jug I may play with. The 066 flat top plastic has an opening for a decomp, but it currently has a non decomp jug on it, so I may change that if I like how the 066 (decomp) jug runs!

Of course, my projects always go on the back burner when other folks bring stuff for me to do. I did some performance enhancements (not port work) to an 066 round top and a 12 mm 044 for some guy, and he loves them both, so he purchased another 066 with a burned piston and dropped it off with me! I've been finishing other projects before starting it (which he was made aware would happen). I also have 2 folks who want benches … I guess it is good to be busy!

Keep in mind, I also have to keep up with my real work! The days just ain't long enough any more!
