On that note.

I was riding with my uncle in his side by side with two deer loaded in the back after a successful hunt when he suddenly stops. Looks around a bit and says, "You know your aunt didn't speak to me for 2 months after I bought this (the side by side)." Then a long dramatic pause. "Totally worth it."

Here is a stock 3120 V's a WKWS ported 394 ripping split posts in Australian White Mahogany... a class 1 hardwood.
Both running Stihl 325 .050 microchisel chain off the roll and a 9 tooth sprocket.

Nice!
And I got busted for praising .325" Stihl RS 9 pin over 3/8" Stihl RS 8 pin on my stock Dolmar PS-9010 bucking turkey oak. ;)

Nice! Just needed a nudge! Lol sounds good!
Thanks, I compared it to a strong 394 this afternoon out of curiosity. The 394 had basic mods anyone could do (gasket delete, timing advance and muffler mod). It was not “ported”. The ported 395 was quicker by about 13-15% and held 1000rpm more in the cut. It had more torque as well. The bar and chain is the same 42” .404 full comp semi chisel on both. Wood is roughly 30-36” red oak.
I’d be curious if I could make up the ground with the 394 after porting. Probably would... or at least come close.

Testing my ported 7900 with a bored and drilled zama. I destroyed 3 carburetors :( until I had a better understanding of how the zama works lol.
I might test a HD12 or 296 tilly on it at some point. I think those would gain more. I just wanted to see if I could take what was given from the factory and improve it.

Saw runs real nice.
Just curious why you used such a long bar with a small piece of wood?

That was the only thing I had handy for test and tune on that bar and chain setup. The bar is a smaller mount Stihl so I had to do some work with the studs and moving the Oiler hole, and wanted to see how it was gonna cut. That big saw only sees use felling and bucking big trees for my tree service, as well as flush cutting stumps. I’ll get up to my dads and get it in some real wood this weekend.

I have Stihl RS in 3/8" & .325", the 3/8" feels slower in turkey oak than Oregon LGX - both sharpened with an Archer FastFiler jig.

Like for the PS-7900! :)

Nice sized speedwood! ;)
