I’d like to try to modify an 036 to run a max flow filter. I think I would have to add longer carb studs to the carb box, modify an 044 air filter base plate to mount onto the carb box/carb, and use the 044 filter horn to mount an open max flow filter.

If quads are so much better why are many modern units duals?
Piston diameter is the one thing I notice; 5 series compared to three series pistons of the same cc output are smaller, therefor easier for the "action" of the uppers to perform.

I’ve never run a 242, but I would bet pretty good money that a ported 543 will hold its own against a ported 242

Am I ever gonna get any royalties for starting the 543 love ? I tried to tell people they were good little units after being ported. Too bad the fuel and oil caps suck and the air filter leaves a little to be desired.

Shaving the choke down is also beneficial as is bumping the timing up.
Even after adding a winter filter, deleting the base gasket, shaving the choke, muffler mod, timing advance and a Walbro WT-194 carb you still have something that slower than a bone stock 346 and that coat significantly more money.
All this applies to a 260 Pro. Never fooled with the 026.
Also you can add 044 antivibe mounts. They last longer and are stiffer.
Good point. You're talking about a different saw. In any case, what power gains do you expect to get with those minor modifications that you wouldn"t get with any other saw?

Truth. After porting my 026 it can't get enough air through a stock filter to even begin to accelerate and won't choke well enough to cold start.

I may have overdone it.
Flocked or winter mesh? If they’re pulling hard and choke spring is weak they will suck choke shut.

260 not much difference over the 026 some are basically identical and others have 44.7 mm bore vs 44 after the epa regulations change just like the 346 changed slightly. So for all intensive purposes the 026/260 run nearly identical and are of same design.

In the case of 026/260, the intake is highly restrictive. Lots of other saws have a better intake so fooling with the details gains less. On 26 it’s a major obstacle.

IIRC (I might not), when you flatten the piston and cut the band it drops the intake quite a bit. Epoxy isn’t the end of the world, but I prefer to avoid it.
