Wow, that's a bunch. What kind of accuracy do you get?

I wasn't sure if you referring to my post about the freebore in my Weatherby or another post. As for me I can get about a 3 shot group to cover a quarter at 100 yards. I know that it's not the greatest but I didn't feel like screwing with finding a better load.

Varget is a good one that works in alot of different cartridges. Interestingly, some of the most accurate .30-30 rounds I ever tried were with Varget. My best friend uses it exclusively in his .243.

I've had outstanding luck with a bunch of powders in my Ruger 77MKII sporter, but my staples are Varget, BLC2, H414 and H4350. We've used several other powders with good luck to include CFE223, 100V, 4064, etc, but the first four I get the best results with. Either way, in the last 4 outings with the rifle, I've killed 4 deer with 5 rounds fired. Seems when a core-lokt projectile still running MACH 5 strikes a buck at 35-37 yards, it sheds its core...

Yes, I was replying to you. Sounds like excellent accuracy to me!

A guy on the 6.5 Creedmoor FB group said that he shot a deer in the neck at 247 yards with the Remington factory 140 grain load. The bullet shed the jacket and did not penetrate through. And Remington lists this load as suitable for elk?

Elk....think I'd go with a 338 diameter bullet just in case of a quartering shot. I'm sure most rounds will do the job on broadside shots. Even a 45LC using a hard-cast bullet up close would work on a broadside shot.....I've been told by a friend.

H4350 is unicorn dust according to the Intertube.

I'm pretty sure that IMR 4350 has worked just fine as well... Given that the Swedes use 6.5x55 on Moose, a 6.5 will work just fine on an Elk. Now, do I want a larger bullet? Most likely, yes. I don't mind recoil and have been heavily considering a .338WM, .338-06 or .35 Whelen. I would consider a 9.3x62, but .366 projectiles are a bit harder to find in the US... A .375 H&H would be fun, but I'm not sure that I want to pack enough gun to make that a pleasurable round to shoot, outside of maybe a Ruger #1 Tropical... But, I would heavily consider using anything in the 6.5 or 7mm classes, with a heavy bullet, simply because. Adequate power which is accurately placed generally trumps badly placed overkill...

It has fairy wings in it too. I still have about 10 lbs of it for my CM and a lb of 4451 that I loaded maybe 20 rounds from.

I want to build a 284 Win, 7WSM, or 28 Nosler for long range past 1k and maybe elk. Shoot 175 or 190 grain from it.

A .280 Remington would be fine to, for my uses but a .284 Winchester wouldn't be bad.

My .257 adores H4350 but I'm switching to something usually in stock and with lower charge weights. The new IMR 4166 sounds quite promising and is always in stock here. IMR 4064 is my go to for .30-30 and is always in stock, one of the best kept secrets in powder I've ever found.

Berger has a new 195gr hunting bullet with a B.C. higher than ANY 30 caliber berger bullet (hunting or target). Probably need a 1:8 twist for that weight. Best I remember the 195gr 7mm bullet has a B.C. of 0.755. I think the 215gr target hybrid 30 cal is 0.691 B.C. I'm sure a 7STW or 7 Rem ultra mag could get you 3000fps or so with the 195.

A 1:8 twist would be the ticket with those heavier higher B.C. bergers. The 195gr. berger looks like it'd be impressive long range.

I’ve got some 195 EOL Elite Hunters & was going to do a 7 RM with them but the 300 WM with the 215 seems to out do it in real life.

I agree with "real experience" compared to "theoretical" or "arm chair theories".
The 140gr hybrids I've shot deer with from my 264 mag must be a thicker jacket compared to the VLD's. The VLD's seem to kill quicker and the hybrids always have an exit hole. Both worked though.
Wish Berger would develop a heavier grain bullet for the 264 bullet....maybe a 160gr.

I believe Your 264 Mag would shine with those.

My .260 Regular seems to be at the peak with high B.C. 130-140 grainers.

BTW,
When you have time, Read Broz article ongoing since 2012 on the 215 Hybrid & also his comparison thread titled Executive Order.

It seems to me the 30 Nosler was the answer to a question no one asked.
