Ah yes........the gift that keeps on giving.

The carb was never rebuilt.......nor even cleaned. That's no surprise.

What about this though? Who allows stuff like this out the door?

That would be an "option" my friend. Haven't you ever hear of options haven't you? This "is" part of the option package discount, da. It's called "obsolete delete" da. J was out of those and the saw got lighter, so WTF?? HAVE YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY HE BUILDS SAWS, WELL DO YA???????? lol

FWIW, I believe there is at least one well respected West Coast porter who doesn't use a degree wheel at all.
Maybe 2. I think Chainsaw Jim doesnt either.

Some use port maps, some use computer software.

I tried a different approach for some of my learning process on port timing but now I strictly use a degree wheel.

You have to decide if you are going to eat that stuff or bale hay. Can't do both... and live to tell the tale

Yeppp. As JacobJ mentioned it can be plugged. Also the carb grommet can be used to seal a small piece of filter fabric around the opening. You obviously don't want to put anything that could get sucked into the carb, though.

Gotta plug em---The unfiltered air from the carb box then passes through the spit back foam and potentially into the carb. I didn't plug my first 064 and noticed some tiny intake side wear. Dumb on my part.

Bing carbs should have their own af base that had no comp hole (since Bings aren't comp carbs). It's the 3405 af base.

Eta- carb "grommet" is called bushing in ipl. P# 1124 121 9100. Probably the same in many pro saws.

The Bing base isn't needed, as long as you plug the hole.
Randy--- what intake setup did that saw have? (Af cover through to intake boot collar).

I knew the 046 would be a mess. Every single part needs to be disassembled, cleaned and tested.

My "UNICORN" will be worked on this winter. It's got the standard equipment rubbed piston in it.

I know that you've got the ability and means to do whats needed, but if I can help ............. please don't hesitate to let me know

There's supposed to be a cover on the carb that connects to the filter base. Without it, there is a direct leak of dirty air inside the air filter.

This should take care of that pesky hole, will even keep heat away, bonus! Even says "PRO" right on the can, how ya gonna get better than that right there? Only $16.00 a can... cheep fix too! Lol
