I need to put the new used piston in and see what the squish is with this cylinder. I then need to see if it is under .020, if so I was thinking of sanding the cylinder to get to .020. I have not cut a cylinder before. I have access to a lathe but it only has a 3 jaw chuck so I guess cutting the base would be doable but would need a mandrel to do inside the cylinder. I want to file the key .020 also since this seems to be recommended.
What would you think next steps?

Since Deets was having a mini GTG with Mike Lee today I thought it fitting to mention I did a test run on a hacked up 357 and 365/371 this afternoon.

Squish can be 030 but I've seen them 017.

You have a gasket in correct

Haven't installed the piston yet. Will try for tomorrow sometime depending on the family's needs

If it's 030 sand 010 off the base.

You can find different thickness of gaskets but there rare. I've probably got 50 gaskets and all but 5 are 017 but the few are 010. All steel. The paper early 066 gasket is 030.

I'm going to guess squish will be .028" with a gasket.

That 365 is fast and the 357 was fun to trim the edges for the mill to clear.

Yes it was messed with. We are on jug 2 now.

Plan a failed. Half of the top of the cylinder is plated. Plan b complete. Sanded cylinder base to .020 squish with glass plate and emory.
