Keith get behind the top of that and bend it forward. You can then grab it with a set of pliers and rock it back and forth. Those spots break pretty easy.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can't do basic maintenance like check out the saw before they use it. the pull start must have been howling like a banshee

Agreed.

But, a clutch that has been severely overheated can be rescued with new springs.

Shoes and the spider are also available separately.

I had one the spider was broken in two! Yikes!
