I posted a while back about the 2016 yr 550 xp with less than 10 hrs time on it that had a total clutch side bearing fail.
Husq dealer confirmed that fuel was fine with no top end damage and that the clutch side 'Only" bearing had failed ...no further explanation was offered.
So it looks to me that this issue " could" be as much be about a fault with the component at install , a basic weakness in spec.. damage that can happen sooner in the saws life from heat /lack of lube.. pressure on the clutch side .. as well as by the ravages of time "Hrs of work" to produce a fail.

One little detail I've been doing, not sure if it matters; but I drop some two stroke oil in those bearings right after installaion to be sure they start their life...wet. (No jokes please)

Ahh go on ...not even a slight titter !!:)
Oil....It can only do some good and at 50.1 there is not much of it about. Being under warrantee i have not suggested the chap messes around with thing , just be VERY careful on his mix and keep the airways clean. We will see how bearing 2 (should be the most recent sort on the IPL !!) holds up.

I tell customers that all the time....they still bring the saws it trashed and wondering why it won't run.

Seems to me like the goal was to either force dealer support or force sale of new saws...because replacing even that single bearing would be cost prohibitive. Either way it's a deal breaker for me. I don't care how good these saws are....they aren't for me if they have a bearing configuration like that.
reason why Husky has gone through the path with special PTO bearings is to make a chainsaw more slim, if we compare the classic 254 against 550 they cut the crank from 147mm down to 122mm, that is 1", that is impressive engineer work.
We gotta be a bit honest about those special PTO bearing prices, most customers doesnt repair themself, those 5xx with blown bearings get tossed in the bin due labour price.

TJ.....I never can understand someone who has no respect for there kit ...but plenty seem not to .
To be fare to this guy he is by no means a numpty or a machine abuser so its one reason I feel comfortable in trusting that this has not been of his making.

One inch is quit a bit and can translate to six ounces in weight.[emoji106]

Great thread here Alfleetcommand... I have been wishing for a tougher pto bearing since around 2013. I have lost track of the times Ive had to replace bearings on my pile of 562s. Every time it was a pto side cage failure. I run only non ethanol and 50 to 1 husky mix. Most of the hours on my 562s are on opened up mufflers. I know the feeling well when the cage fails, the bearings bunch together and cause a weird vibration. Most of the time it occurs before the saws wont run right.
Ever checked to see if there is a Stihl bearing that would work?

In the past year I have been doing 4.5 gallons of non E premium to a 5 gallon mix bottle ,I buy the six pack husky mix. I have an old 262 that's on its 3rd piston never done anything to the bottom end other then new seals. To bad we cant get that kind of life out of the 562s.. Sigh My 60cc saws get worked hard most sport 28in. bars all there life. I run only chisel chain and keep it sharp. I have one 562 with 700 plus hours on it at 50 to 1... It came with the el44 carb...
I've had factory pto side bearing failure and at least one that I installed. All were on the 5 screw cases. I think I have 3 that I changed over to the six screw cases. Time will tell I've modded the top covers for more air flow..

Anyone know if the 6 screw cases have upgraded bearings in them? Did they make any changes to the cranks? I have a parts saw with a 6 screw case it had the ring keeper pin back out , the top end is junk now...

Sheesh, with all these issues with 550xps and 562xps, I'm afraid to keep buying this generation of Husky. Granted, almost all mine are junk parts saws brought back to life, but when I fix them, I would like them to hold together.

Dirtmagnet... totally approve of your rookie rebuilds. I'm sure the new gen huskys run really nice and are great saws in there own right, but I'm leary of the nylon cage proprietary bearings myself. That 262 you have has the same bearings, on both sides pto and flywheel, same with your 359 and the 350. 6202's. Personally, these type of saws is what I'd like to own. ...makes the most sense to me.

Thanks Mattyo! I've watched most of yours and Walts vids. I really liked where Walt was going with the 562xp builds, since I really like the 60cc size saws, but without a lathe at home, I can't do some of the things I'd like. Also, these nylon caged bearings seem to fail at a much higher rate than the steel counterparts. Plus the random air leaks at the cylinder transfer covers (which I've never even heard about with the 3 series saws), has me questioning owning additional 5 series Huskys. I only have one 5 series (545) right now and it's still on the bench (I'm in Germany for 3 weeks for work, 1 more week to go). When this saw is done, we will see if the light weight, small size and superior anti-vibe make these saws worth the hassle.

No saw I own is perfect. The husky 350 has 3 MAJOR issues that need to be dealt with on every stock saw before it can be even considered to have some longevity. Muffler support base reseal and intake clamp. ...yet its my favorite. If you can remedy the issues saws have....then don't rule them out. The nylon cage bearing thing apparently can't readily be remidied because only those proprietary bearings can be used on those saws.

That annoys me. I can't choose my own bearings. So for the forsee able future...for saws for me....I'm gonna focus on retaining saws that I can choose bearings for. 350 262 372 394. Good enough :)

Is it possible to have custom ceramic ball installed then the nylon cage swapped out to stainless?

Don't know any history on it just that it slowed the fall of a tree...
Chain brake attachment point on clutch side is broken off.
It is VERY well used to say the least.... Piston is worn smooth on in and ex side.... Will hook it up and read it eventually...
Tank is broke near clean off at front handle mount.
2013 model...
