266? You don't like?
I like it well enough (Chris, that right ? ) , it was a saw from a customer that i took in needing work and with the intention to move on unless it "Knocked my socks off"
It wasn't going to be picked up instead of my KS 1992 ,262 xp so i decided to stick to plane A. Have a few saws around the 60, 62cc mark so i will try and find something to put the profits towards in a different bracket. Dam good saw though ! think the XP with bigger carb would be a tiny bit stronger.

I can understand that. The ones that don't impress me go down the road here as well. I dont think I could let a 266 go though, too damn hard to find here.

Its odd how it works out ...266 isn't that rare here compared to some saws. The 8o cc plus saws are more difficult due to them being used mostly by pro timber firms .40, 50 and 60 cc is the most common size i would say. A 272,281..288 is not easy to find unless you pay BIG.

Is that by keeping the old style filter with the 1 centre bolt ...don't the XP's have a 2 bolt filter and housing on the 224 ?
Edit : That has prompted me to be more "careful " in looking at the IPL !!
Only shows the 266se 1981 as having the 61 filter and 1 screw ..all 2 screw filter and body after ,SE or XP.
Guess what yours truly has !? Assumed , "Wrongly" the change was Se to XP ..Doww

There seldom were other changes directly connected to the change from se to xp designations.

Ah ,right.....The high top is not often a UK supplied thing ...most of our saws are standard low tops and ordinary filters.

Here as well, but OEM HD kits should be possible to order, at least on current models. Aftermarket kits (like the pictured blue one) are another story.

.1 kW more, according to specs, with the larger carb - but you should know by now that some late se saws was that way as well? ;)

Over here it is TOUGH to find a high-top cover in un-cracked condition as well as any intake elbow. The filters can be found with a little work.

Seems going right back to the start on ageing this saw you were about on the money with 1981-82 Sir.
It has the 162 style intake and filter that look in keeping with its overall condition . 1981 SE saws only seem to have that set up then its the 2 bolt plastic intake elbow.
What did you spot from the first pics i put up ,as the plate numbers don't date it from what you mentioned ?
