Seems going right back to the start on ageing this saw you were about on the money with 1981-82 Sir.
It has the 162 style intake and filter that look in keeping with its overall condition . 1981 SE saws only seem to have that set up then its the 2 bolt plastic intake elbow.
What did you spot from the first pics i put up ,as the plate numbers don't date it from what you mentioned ?
I can understand that. The ones that don't impress me go down the road here as well. I dont think I could let a 266 go though, too damn hard to find here.
Hello old friend. How have you been feeling?I assume they are, on Greenland!

Over here it is TOUGH to find a high-top cover in un-cracked condition as well as any intake elbow. The filters can be found with a little work.
That pitting in the Mag Alloy case iv come across on some 42 242 254 saws...some clutch side covers have been really bad and were holed. This is rough. But I'm stubborn. I'm gonna try and use it

Nice looking saw. I am sure he will enjoy it and be very surprised.View attachment 21147 Purchased a new 262xp in 1990. Son cut firewood with it through his high school years and I used it a lot. My son went into the U.S. Coast Guard and has been there for 11 years. I sold that 262xp and every time he comes home, I will hear, you should have never sold that saw! So, I purchased this 262xp and gave it the Landmark treatment. Next time he returns home, or we go to see him. It's his.
Thanks again for your advise. Saw runs nice and strong.Nice looking saw. I am sure he will enjoy it and be very surprised.

I deal with Ebel's hardware, a great local Husqvarna/Echo dealer. Asked Paul, if it's coil was covered by Husqvarna's lifetime warranty. Told him it was 4420841 and he laughed at me. Just the response I was waiting for. Put a new coil, piston ring, diet coke can base gasket and opened muffler up.Looks like another older 262xp - the serial number will tell when it was made.
Good job!

In 1977 I was involved in an accident that required blood transfusions and received Hepatitis C along with the blood. It has developed into liver damage and I no longer drink any alcohol. Learned about it in 1993, when I donated blood. Hope I never passed it on to anyone. Wife, son and daughter have been tested, all are clear. Thank God! Needed the blood at the time and life goes on. Life has better things to dwell on, wife, children, grandchildren and chainsaws. Thanks for your knowledge.1994 week 42 then - but why not beer can, instead of diet coke?
