Simon, thats KS jug & hda 87, and yes, thats what everyone wants to have :D
262 KS jug is 166, but that casting mark on them is made so it's easily to think it's 188 :)
The other picture look like it was made by KS 02-92, make sense

Good news all around then … Sorry all of you Boys ..I figure i must do better with the quality of pics but camera phone is my only option and since my sonny K 800 is no more the one i have now isn't a patch on it.
Tor..yes indeed it has 02-92 on it and makes perfect sense as its a 92 saw just as you and ST said :)
R2D ..My pics aren't the best to make out info from ,thanks for conformation on the carb.
Now…why is this set up so looked out for. The jug is German made I know but Mahle are a quality maker too !

Mahle vs KS.
This is what told me by others, I have no experience fine study them.
The port shape and bewels are higher quality on KS.

Personally I prefer the shine in KS alu :D Mahle look a bit boring :p
That said, Mahle jugs seems to handle more beathing, at least on those 262's I got for a year ago, all the KS was a lost case while 4/5 Mahle survived

Evening Tor :)
Have to say that the overall finnish and smoothness of the ports were excellent on this cylinder. About a yr ago i did some matching of gaskets on the in port and out port plus a slight increase of the megaphone shape of those ports. Linked to a better breathing muffler it made a strong saw into a slightly better strong saw with very fast pick up off the throttle and it will hold 1o500/11000 rpm in the cut on a 20 in bar 3/8 chain without being to easy on the dogs.
Apart from that there are no changes from stock.
Its very good on a 8 pin sprocket with a 15 in bar ..speedy..but I'm not short of other saws to use on that size !

Hi there Andrew
Didn't even know about these KS cylinders being so looked out for mate !! You learn something new all the time.
I Was right on to it once the errands were done ..never got round to listing a saw as got side tracked with looking on some other saws to see if i had more :D

A difference that often is mentioned is that the combustion chamber is smaller on the KS than on the Mahle.

Don't forget that there was a Gilardoni one as well;

Except that the 42 is a tad lighter, and a neater saw to handle. ;)
Now how did i know that might be a comment made as iv seen other posts on the subject :D …Im a curious sole ST and don't mind having a try out to see what i think . By the way…I hope you are still on the mend ? Hear through the grape-vine you haven't been so good if that info is sort of current ?

Gilardoni.. Iv not seen yet on 254 or 262 saws iv worked on…only on the 42 sp and 242 xp
I get the impression the KS feels higher compression due to its configuration…Firm pull required on my 262 or ..Ouch !

What can I say…Im generous to a fault :)
Is this a combo you have or want to find by the way ?
Yes this is the most desired combo because it runs best from factory and the hardest to find. After a cylinder is ported then they all run great if properly done. But the hda87 carb out performs the more common hda120 hands down. If you decide to let this one go then you will be hard pressed to replace it with the same. My 262 has 87 carb but i added it. Has ported Mahle cylinder. Also the handle with compartment is getting harder to find in nice condition.

Its been with me since 1992 after my 254xp was stolen in a burglary . I added a bit of cash to the insurance and went 1 saw bigger in the range with the intention of getting a 242xp for lighter work and hedge line maintenance. I guess the 262 was the only positive to come from the burglary !
The pair were the perfect combo for years for what i needed. I don't have plans to move the 262 on as its in such good condition and its not the only saw i pick up to use now so it should stay that way. The bigger saws in the range are just silly money here still so i tend to find the 40-50 cc bracket is where my money is spent as projects and saws to sell.
What do you think the handle compartment is for ? And please feel free to call me Simon if you feel like it
