Well....

You do beautiful work.

I guess you must take a lot out of the squish band to set static compression comparable to sea level builds.
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, i definitely look to maximize compression while still maintaining long term reliability. Saws really struggle up here and an increase in compression and ignition timing help alot.

I bet you don’t have to drill any carburetors at that elevation!

@Robert Krogh

Boy did you hit the nail on the head man. Too many professionals aren't professional.... as a general rule. Finding the guys that really take pride in what they do is quite the task.

One thing to consider is that the polishing doesn't necessarily lead to a super running saw....but if a saw runs like crap and you see a carefully done head....you are gonna be much more likely to give the builder leeway because they really put the hours in. Its the saws that run like crap that look like crap internally that cause all the fuss lol.

I cant match what you do. ( ...and i grind on teeth for a living lol.) Congrats on setting the bar higher for pros and diyers alike
You are absolutely right! Surface finish is the least important feature, the only port I polish is the exhaust. I finish intake and transfer ports with a stone at low RPM to keep them from loading up. I believe that if you are going to promote yourself as a professional and invoice accordingly, than you should be able to do it all. The system starts at the air cleaner and finishes at the exhaust deflector. A property ballanced system will run amazing with lack luster finishing but if I pay a premium than I expect some attention to detail.

The elevation thing is something I’ve thought about, as I also live up high.
Here’s my thinking:
Bigger carb bore = more volume. That’s what you need at elevation because there’s less oxygen in the same volume of air. Not loads of experience, but I have found 359 carb on 346 or 390 carb on 372 add rpm at elevation.

My experiments with timing advance have been inconclusive. @Robert Krogh, are you advancing 346 and 372 for your elevation?Generally those models don’t see much benefit from advance after porting.

Really nice symmetry and finish on your porting!

Working on a Trx250r, 390 big bore stroker,it’s a ceo, dish piston inverted squish band, I will get some dyno time for this one, should be fun...intake tract, still some mods to go. Hoping to make some good all around powerE31E3377-6B36-4AA1-8883-F501E8F32D51.jpeg

Lil’l 462 today. After base cut without gasket numbers 86 /124,127/102.5. Ended up at 86/121/99 and .020 squish. That lip definitely is a pain to get flush and not marr the machine finish on the base. Scott’s saw vise is a real treat to have. It gets used everyday.
