That aluminum cover must get hot!!!

Runs pretty well, the cover stays cool enough, it hasn’t discolored or been compromised yet, and she ran a 404 with a 36 inch and 9 tooth. I’m betting that the sewer pipe exhaust is helping to keep the cover cool

Now winter's over here I might have time to give one me ms170's a hit with air, I use it to cut off cuts for firewood at home.
I buy cheap filters and change them out every few months.
In use I wash them out with my 2T mix every time I sharpen the chain but as you can see the filter is dry! that's thanks to running a synthetic oil it evaporates pretty quick leaving no oil on the filter.
I've got to remember next time I'm in town to get me some of me good dino oil and stop using the synthetic oil I buy for my MX bikes..

Why even use an air filter when there are a bunch of large holes all around the air filter box?
If I see that correctly those holes go through into the air box underneath the filter element?!

Air comes in through the bottom up through the filter into the air box top cover makes up the top of the air box then down that hole in the middle of the air filter on it's way to the carb.

These holes are not originally in there.


Only filter housing 1130 140 2814 (marking 1130 124 3510 C) can be reworked with an 8mm hole (on the marked position), that chips can escape more easy.

Yeah holes are not factory I drilled them for more air flow into the air box.
Trust me air has to go through the filter to get to the carby intake, the holes I drilled are on the air box intake dirty air side of the filter.
Someone with a 170 help me explain how the airbox works on these saws lol

I got 2 170's sitting on the floor in the garage. Got them on a lot that I picked up from Craigslist. I havent had the time to play with them yet. What have you done to make them run better?

Not to much as it still has the no high or low carb didn't port it as such just done funky stuff to port walls and gave it more air and opened exhaust a little.

A Walbro 215 carb works great on them.
