Porting, You get what you pay for

Well if that is what is called porting then I am not interested. Doing a little clean up of the casting is not porting and should not be called such.
I am also some what confused on the time line. The saw was new and received and then was ported by wicked work saws and then sent to the customer is that correct.

All I can say is the saw looks like a mess and the owner has ended up with nothing but frustration and a screwed up mess. I do not believe fordf150 is trying start anything other feeling bad for the person who owns this saw. I agree with fordf150 that even though the cylinder base was cut and the pop up done to bump up compression there was no porting done to the saw.

As far as the pitting in the top of the cylinder and the scoring in all different places on the piston and cylinder it looks very strange to me.

Answer me this one question, does altering the port timing of a saw classify as porting a saw? How do you define it?

Wowzers! At least ya had the courage to post. I think its a complete con to call that professional port work, the saw ain't ported at all. Poor guy spent about 1k plus shipping back and forth for removal of casting floors, a pop up and hacked base. Its just simply wrong.

I know a lot of you guys do not want hurt any ones feeling but a fordf150 originally pointed out that the work looked shabby. Well it looks like crap to me to. From the grinding to the machine marks on the base of the cylinder. Not what I call good clean work.

Fortunately, Terry knows what works. As I have one of his 562's that Andy ran and liked so much, he bought one from Terry too. When I called to order one, Terry told me exactly what he did to them that worked so well and that's what I got.
2 years and lord knows how many tank full's later, still running like a bat out of hell.. Worth every freaking penny spent.
I even still got the original "bad" carbs!! Lol..

Fortunately, I'm not worried about your respect. I usually keep my mouth shut. I honestly feel 150 should have handled this differently. That's my opinion and I have a right to it.

you have a right to your opinion....but i also have a right to post what i think is poor quality work when its my time and money going into making it right.

you guys think i took posting this lightly...i have seen what happens when someone is called out on the work they do....im still waiting on an answer of how the bearings and carb are warrantied but the piston and cylinder arent.

I know nothing about porting...I have said so many times before but i know what poor quality work and no pride in your work looks like.

I guess when someone has a set price in my head you have to take into consideration that say the set price is $299. You are not paying for just machining. Think about this so he says he has hogged out a few jugs and found out what he likes best. How many jugs did he have to replace after he hogs one out and says "oh well that was a bust." Plus he has to cover himself say if it does hang a ring for some god forsaken reason. Same concept goes for everything you buy: tv's, power tools, cars, cell phones, saws even. I guess the best way to label it as 'x dollars gets you superior performance compared to stock' not as 'port work.'

People used to run down Dave Neiger's saws because the "porting" work looked rough, but the reality was- very few people could build a saw that would beat one of Dave's at the time. He built fast saws that lasted a long time that few others could match. Now does that mean his work was crap because his porting looked rough or was the proof in the pudding?

Same in the world of fast chains. I've seen some that had to have had 10-12 hours of work on em. Beautiful.

Slow as hell..

Then some look like a 9 year old took to em with a file for a half hour that cut fast.

sounds to me like FF150 was trying to make things right for a walk in customer who wasn't still talking with his builder and in the process asked some questions and reunited star crossed lovers

In a hour i can make a 660 run very good, cut 040 from the chamber and smear some jb weld in the intake,raise the transfers a touch and knock a big hole in the muffler and people are shocked at how well it runs. Should that be cheaper than grinding here and there for a few hours for the same result?

It can be that easy but I try to squeeze everything I can from one,should that be more?
