The bars are the same specs, but only one chain was used between both saws, this means I ran a few cuts with the 460 then I took the chain off and put it on the 390 to compare it. I would have touched the chain up if it needed it but it was good to go. The reason I didn't use the same bar is because the black bar is modified with a longer bar stud slot so I can run it on husky saws without using a longer chain. The 390 was built by another shop on the coast, the 460 is my build.

Surprisingly close.....except in looks....the 460 is soooo much sexier....
Usually a 13cc head start is a tall order to overcome. (Always wondered why the two are even compared to one another)
I will agree there. The 460 is my favorite stihl for looks. I've got to run some 460s that were fast. Not quite as fast as the 385s and 390s like these are.

390 is cheaper than a 461 and the 460 was about the same locally for me as the 390.

The 390 is running lean
Yes it was, but not anymore. It was lightly four stroking when I was warming it up, but it got leaner as it got to temperature.

There's a lot more to be had from the 460 if that's all the mods you did.

Nice saws
I did the same port work on my 064 hybrid. Both were built with used pistons with plans of raising the transfers when I go back in to install the new pistons. I didn't want to take too many steps and miss something while trying different mods involving port shapes. I was wondering if increasing the velocity at the upper transfer can actually affect timing if the faster charge can reach the destination at the same time as an incoming charge with normal velocity from a higher transfer port.

Matt, I'll have 3 ported 046/460s at the GTG, including the one Dr Al ported.

If you did not run it at the NY GTG, I'll tell you now, you will like it.

How does the durability of the 460 compare to the 390, etc? I've heard that some of the Husky's require a richer mix to keep the bearings from cooking.

I've never liked a 390. It's the only saw that feels heavy to me and I have a 394 and a 395. They can run great but for no more difference in weight I'll take a 94\95.

The av is to soft also like a 372

Funny, I start 372, it runs out of oomph
Pullout the 460, wait for chain to dull or run out of bar
Reach for 385....( usually around this time, I take a nap....someday you'll understand)
About this time I'm recharged for the 066 w / 36"
If I'm really feelin frisky, I'll have 395s dancing in my head (like the Greek mythology sirens)

At this point, I usually call in a pro ....and let him run my 395 !!! :pesas:
