Well when the chain is hot enough to burn off the paint from the bar the steel in the chain is softer = more ware and eventual stretch. Granted thatās not a wanted or normal thing to be happening but it does to everyone sometimes. Basically everything that happens during a chain cutting wood creates ware. Certain things cause ware at a higher rate like dirt, dull teeth, extra hard wood, having your rakers too high or low. All of those things cause friction which = heat. Heat also thins your bar oil causing it to do less of the job it should, witch in turn caused again more heat. In the end heat is always the biggest enemy of a saw chain and a 2stroke motor.
