Processor .404 is usually.080 gauge, as compared to .404 .063 that most chainsaws use.
Or .404 100 with a heavier chassis all together also. They may all be .080 now in .404 but the entire chain is heavier for the hydraulic powered head.

I'm still unclear on what the units are for "more". Is the question about time or volume?

A ported saw cuts through more wood in the same amount of time, so the chain will wear more quickly and dull more quickly in terms of cutting time. But...if you are cutting the same volume of wood, I can't see why the amount of wear would not be similar.

Ported or not I think the hardest thing on chains is dirty wood.
Here I trash RS .404 in a few cuts. I knew I'd be sacrificing this chain beforehand piss ants had taken dirt and granite gravel up inside the log making nests.
Inspecting the chain afterwards I'd broken off a cutter or two and snapped a tie strap on one side.

The question nobody is asking: are ported saws harder on chains, specifically cutter life?
I say no. All things equal, the only reason they would dull quicker is because they are turning faster, and therefore, cut the same amount of wood in shorter amount of time.

For instance, say a chain can cut a mile of wood before it gets dull; the ported saw will cut that mile of wood in half (or 3/4ths) the time of a non-ported saw, but the chain on both saws lasts for the whole mile. I do not think the difference in the amount of heat from either saw would matter; the difference will be negligible for proper steel.

Best answer so far, IMO. Well said.

Hello, for some reason I can’t write u a pm

I’ve ordered some bars Tsumura and cannon just to try if they are better.

My dealer told me not to use chain that i also use on my hard nose bar.

Do u switch the same chain between hard and roller nose bars? And do u get more wear and tear after switching from a hard nose?

Sprocket nose bar will roll the chain over on its DL's while the hard nose bar tip runs on the chains tie straps.

Though honestly I don't see why You couldn't swap a chain over from a hard nose to a sprocket nose bar.

I noticed the bottom of the cutters gets a bit more hammered on the hard nose bars but we are talking end of life 404. The stihl chains have witness marks on the bottom and they aren't worn to that point by the time the cutters start snapping off at the end of their life.

I use both sprocket and hard nose bars. I run the same chains on both and have not had an issue but anything is possible. I don't see why it would be an issue

Ich nutze sie auch gerne für dreckiges Holz oder zum ablängen. Aber beim fällen stört sie mich oder es ist die 404 Kette..hmm?

For the rest :P
I also like to use it for dirty wood or for bucking. But when felling it bothers me or is it the 404 chain...hmm?

The one and only reason to use hard nose bars is if You plunge cut a lot!

Other than that You are wasting power on a whole lot of friction.

I use the hard nose bars I own only because "I have them!"!
I prefer sprocket nose bars in all application I encounter.

As others have said it's fine to switch chains between the two bars.
And yes a hard nose bar is harder on chains but just turn ya oiler up to max.
