I've chased a few narrow skirts in my day, I found I preferred the fuller thick ones too.
I tried some real narrow and some real wide skirts. My preference is somewhere in the middle.

However when it comes to jugs. I enjoy the the larger end of the spectrum

I ported a old 281 I use to have and it ran very good, what do you think about them Treemonkey?

I've had a few of both and they both are good runners. Little heavy but not terribly.

I sure like mine that Scott did for me, mine tached out at 14,800-15,000 too. I thought it was running lean because of the RPM,s but the plug was still brown so that wasn't the case. I run 8 tooth on it and it's Fast! It's stronger than the 2186 he did for me

The last 288 I had 13500 was plenty,my exhaust was probably lower cause that's about all it would tune to.

This one you built will come close, but it sounds and feels like it is about to tear itself apart above 13.5 (in a good but scary way)
That's what I thought to when I started using it but that's where it runs, still has plenty of torque with 8 pin and 30" bar and is real fun with a 20" on it

ran the saw some today. 15,000 is good for racing, 14,000 is plenty rich for normal use. needs a carb kit and maybe clutch springs.
Is it going to be a GTG saw or work saw? Did you do some different stuff to it?

To find the strongest saw you have to run the same chain otherwise your just racing chains. A faster saw can be easily beaten with a better chain.

I understand using your own chain but it don't compare saws very well I don't think.

Makes sense! I'm not superior at my sharpening compared to most these guys so I wouldn't fare to well
