I have like 100ish links in total. Feel bad to throw them away cuz they are new. Some Stihl and some Oregon. All 3/8 0.063. I have some Stihl straps lying around too. But thinking 7 or 8 joins would create too much weak points?

You need ferrous material to locate.... and a expensive line locator. If it’s a plastic line you have the option of trying to shove a wire inside of it from the meter pit.. I like using a electrical fish tape the best.

I’d just let it run longer and make yourself a pointed rod and probe around where your best guess is..

Next would be a Shovel.

You can find pipe of any kind with a divining rod or even a bent piece of thin metal rod, i have done it plenty of times

If you can keep the chain all one brand with matching straps should be OK. I tried mixing new old stock Homelite 3/8 with a new Oregon 3/8 and it didn't run smooth.
