If you were to choose a native tree to cut for stacking firewood on, what species would be your choice for longevity and rot resistance?

Black locust poles, at least in my neck of the woods, will easily outlast anything else. If it's dead and dry before you put it down, or at least the bark's been peeled, it will last even longer.

I agree, Locust is probably the best in the east that's abundant. Oak, cedar if it's actually cedar, Osage Orange, Bald Cypress.

use what you have but soak it in drain oil
