Ok Ok, here's some pics. I had to wait to get to a computer to upload from sd card. I hope some of you Stihl guys can comment on the cylinders. I noticed the 046 jug has a smaller combustion chamber than the 460's. also the mufflers are different and the 460's seem more restricted.

Me either. I am hoping that some builders will chime in. It happen on two pistons and has me worried about using the other one.

Only thing that comes to mind is that it happened during assembly?

None of saws have ever been apart. All oem and bought new from local stihl dealer. One muffler had a small piece laying in it. Probably the missing piece from the piston.

The "D" cylinder should blow 10psi higher after the band cut than the non-D.

At least from what I've seen, some of the non-D's have superior port shapes to the D. MustangMike and I ported a D jug, and the regular 460 jug had much bigger and wider ports than the D. The D had a much thicker base.

Not that anyone cares, but for porting, I think the Non-D is probably superior. The combustion chamber design is better after the band cut. The squish band isn't as large, and you can drop the jug more without excessive compression for a 77cc saw.

I think both jugs have their advantages. Maybe a pro will chime in.

Yes.

I'll give credit where it is due.

Huskies have a better, almost tunnel ram into the jug intake setup. Nice big free flowing filters.

The design of business end of Huskies is much better than most Stihl's. The jugs are easier to mod for performance. Wider longer piston skirts. Better ring pin locations.

The entire rest of the saw is where I see the problem. The fasteners and everything else surrounding the jug and crankcase feels flimsy and cheap. Needing to remove your clutch to change the rim sprocket? They're joking right?
Some stihls are like that as well. They're flagship top handles are outboard clutches.

Huskies should include lock tite.

A piece was laying inside the muffler. I am amazed it didnt wreck either of the cylinders.
Had an 038 of a friend do the very same thing. It was missing the piece from the same area. Now yours confirms his was not the only one.

Makes me concerned about reusing the last piston that has not done this. Wonder if it will happen. Oem is suppose to be better but meteor might be a better choice on rebuild.

Would use Meteor in a heart-beat. No worries whatsoever with the ones I have used.

The prices are too similar to even consider using aftermarket anymore. Oem piston runs about $44 for the 460.
