Well I called a logger buddy and inquired about chainsaw. Knowing he had switched from Stihl to Husqvarna last year I knew I had a good chance of scoring a ms460. So he said he would see if he had one. he called me and I went by yesterday to see what he had. He told me he had four saws for me to take. I ask how much and he said just take them and repair them. Said I could keep my pick after they are fixed. He said he would pay for parts. Cherry on top is that he said to junk any of them that had bad crank bearings! Got them tore down and all jugs look great and the 046 bearings are noisy............:D

for sure, more pix!! I was scrolling thru the thread looking to see a workbench full of 4 stihls... split in two right thru the cases... parts galore, and parts all over! but alas... only the stirring of a mini flame war... and I did! had to scroll up to the top to see if it was green or blue? ;)

:)

Oh no Dave!

Not my favorite model, but you may become a convert.

I took a good look at a 036 sitting next to a 262 in my garage last night. The 036 is a much smaller and tighter package and can be made to perform just as well as the 262.

Once you dig into the Stihls, you'll realize how much better they are made.

Except the terrible air filtration on the 046/460's.
Yes.

I'll give credit where it is due.

Huskies have a better, almost tunnel ram into the jug intake setup. Nice big free flowing filters.

The design of business end of Huskies is much better than most Stihl's. The jugs are easier to mod for performance. Wider longer piston skirts. Better ring pin locations.

The entire rest of the saw is where I see the problem. The fasteners and everything else surrounding the jug and crankcase feels flimsy and cheap. Needing to remove your clutch to change the rim sprocket? They're joking right?

Fasteners are legendary. I was refueling my 394 while milling and a screw fell out of it. I was like WTF because I couldn't find where it had come from. When I got it home I took it apart, finally found it was for the air injection, big wallowed out spot in the case but good threads further in, replaced with a longer t27.
