So does that mean you drive an old vehicle with a standard carb? Everyone has there own opinion but I think they need to be more open minded at these new saws. If the manufacturer trusts the auto adjust carbs in their pro saws it's only a matter of time before the old school people will have to adapt to technology

I sure dnt drive an electric Prius, I do have a truck w a good 4 barrel on it yet, more parts something has, the more problems you have. You all are free to do as you please but I like being able to adjust a carb with a little screw driver. I just feel these electronic versions drive the cost up also.

I understand, I wish they had a carb option as well, but guess that's not going to happen, I would think a carb version would be a little lighter without the wiring and such.

Maybe it'll be an option for the fire rescue version?

I am not paying those kind of prices, 064s can be had for half that price in really nice condition and weigh only a little more, put an 066 top end on and port it and still have less in it then a stock 462. Brad used to make 99cc 064s if I recall correctly.

Why are you commenting on the threads about the new husky and stihl saws? The point has been made, they are new, they aren't cheap, they have computers in them, they aren't proven by 20 years of service.
Your sig shows some great saws, some real highlights of the saws of the last 20 years. You know they were all new once? You know that the first 044s were the lightest and most powerful? Same with an early 066 or an 064.
There is every chance that this 462 will be a classic saw in 20 years, or it might be a temperamental piece of junk. Somebody has to take the chance of finding out. Schrödinger's cat and all that jazz. I'm just pretty sure I can hear some meowing so I'm going to open the box.

Just pointing out that there are cheaper ways to get more power in light packages, not everyone can afford a new 462, but maybe they can afford an older model and upgrade it as they go and get it ported later on, or maybe they would just rather save for the 462, no wrong answer, each person can decide for them self, for me, I will take a proven commodity against an unknown 1, especially at $1500.00 for a stock saw, lot of unknowns.

I think its great Stihl is pursuing power to weight ratio's once again like they did back when the 044 was introduced. We had a period where saws got fatter and heavier as they evolved, it seems that trend is finished. (Thank God)

According to the German site, they are selling the 462 for a hair less than the 461. If that holds true when it gets across the pond, the 462 should be a lot less than $1500.

FWIW, the tree service guys I know love their m-tronic saws. Easy starting, perfect idle, protection from death at the hands of an unknowing operator. The tree job I tagged along with yesterday featured a pig rich pole saw and an ms280 that took 15 pulls to fire up in the bucket. Even if those guys know how to tune a saw (big if), and care that the saw isn't running right, they still have to take the time to do it, and in many cases it just doesn't happen, which is why m-tronic saws are a great fit for some settings. I love my 261; set up with a sharp chain and good gasi can put it in anyone's hands and not worry about them having a frustrating experience or toasting a saw if something fails.

Or keep their hands toasty with the flick of a switch...
