Ms362 exhaust leak.

I pulled the jug on my 362 to check some stuff and after putting it back together it was leaking around the muffler where it bolts to the cylinder. I tried cleaning the muffler, gasket, and cylinder and putting it back together but it still leaks.
This is what's on there.

Anybody have a fix for this? Do I just need a new gasket?
Would this fit?

After a good run, retighten the two bolts on either side of the port holding the can on.
No, that gasket will not fit, I recommend the OEM gasket.

If you have any copper flashing/sheet, make a copper gasket and heat shield combo. I have never hade one leak yet

Just give it a good wipe down with some cleaner and you should be good to go.

Well messing with a hot muffler could be fun but I guess I can give it a go.

Use the hot mats out of the kitchen to handle the muffler and you should be good to go!!

Edit: Yeah, I didn't think that through, no you don't want to take it apart after running, just tighten down. Later if you can get a screwdriver with a paper towel or something to work in and wipe up the extra oil you should be good to go.

It's okay, let it cool down first, you want it to shrink back up after being expanded anyway.

Make sure the exhaust screws aren't too long - that can cause a leak.

Tighten, tighten and strip those bolts....

I like the post with a home made coper gasket.....or made out of klingerit sheet....

They all leak a little bit. It’s not like it’s a “sealed“ system. As long as the proper gaskets are in place and the muffler isn’t dented it’s likely fine

They do have one or more holes on the other end too

It was getting oily mess on the cylinder. I'll try tightening up with it hot and get a new gasket.

Is it a plain 362 or C–M?
Is it possible that it’s tuned too rich?

Standard carb. I had it tuned right before pulling the jug and a timing advance. I got it close but safely rich yesterday since I only needed it to cut my other saw out.

Ok never mind I did take the muffler of before that to do a MM and that's when it started.

“Strip it out and then back it off a quarter turn” is a well-loved torque spec used by many.

Speaking of… what is the best plan for a stripped muffler bolt hole? Half the threads came out with the blessed lok tite (different application)
