Also keep things in perspective, guys on forums see a few fines get past their filter & think the issue is far more of a problem than it is. Sure piston wear and contamination can occur from poor filtration but with a few tiny wood fine here and there a good pro saw can run a very long service life with no major issues from it. You may well be better off saving the money you can spend on a high end AM filter and putting it towards your next saw. In some cases action must be taken but not always, a little grease often does the trick. Many PSP's running expensive AM filters are not doing it cause their last pro saw ended its life due to poor filtration. Just my opinion.

I run metal mesh filters on my PRO production saws and some fines get into the carb and engine, after 10 -12 years running them I havn`t lost a piston yet. None of my saws are PSP material but they are all woods ported.
Same with me. I think the saws eat the fines up and spit them out the exhaust. LOL

Seeing how my posts have been catching some flack, here is the gentleman that I was quoting regarding replacing a posed to cleaning the air filter. (Jim was the one that was running our class). He said it on November 15. He was instructing Sheboygan County Highway Dept

I’m sorry if I miss leaded or misinformed members of this forum regarding what I said, that was clearly not my goal.

According to the user manual for the ms362 c-m on Page 40-41 it describes the procedure for cleaning the air filter.

Hi, not to worry, we were / I was not questioning the fact someone
told this to you, it was more that common sence was telling us to
clean our filters as they would not be a cheap replacement, especilly
if conditions were bad / dusty.
Following what Jim Olive said would have caused no real problems
other than financial ones.
When you said Jim was a safety trainer, people probably noted
that it was most likely out of his area of expertise in any event to
comment on saw mentainance, or may be not, as oil spills are a
safety issue, and having a spare filter may enable one to keep
cutting in an event that would other wise put him or others in danger.

We had a laugh at the whole idea, but we were not being asses,
you know, give some people an inch and they take a mile.

Regards, john

Poor choice of words on my part. I apologize. I have two saws that use the filter in question. The operators manual talks about air filter maintenance, nowhere does it mention letting it in place until clogged. I should have just typed that instead of puffing up and tossing out insults. I remember being a flight instructor years ago, and students would hang on every word I said, right or wrong. I like the round filter and have no fear of taking it off whenever I want. Sorry if I sounded too harsh. DW

I have a 261 C and 362 C and my brother has a 241 C. I believe they all use the same filter, and I have not seen any evidence of fines getting past the filters. I think these "reports" of fines are often the result of hastily installed filters, etc. The new 362 C filter is much improved IMO.

Jeff, I don't think these saws have the room for a Max Flow, which is generally larger than the stock filters.

Maybe Mike. Maxflo should be able to engineer something to fit them and still utilize the stock cover.
We send people to the moon. Lol

Hi MustangMike
Good to hear your saws are working out with the standard filters.
I will keep an eye open for fines, but don't see me having much trouble,
a bit of vaseline should suffice, if I get a cover for the filter like others
seem to use over the oval shaped filters, then it will be a bonus.
I can usually work with the elements to blow dust away from the saw
so dont forsee many unavoidable problems.

Regards to all, john

Maybe installing some frog skins on the back side of the covers would keep the filters cleaner? Allow the saw to draw air from a cleaner source?

Would likely work, but I would not recommend it if I were using the saw in very cold conditions, as I think they try to use engine heat keep the carb from icing.
