The 661 here is gaining a pretty foul reputation among timber fallers. Many have had problems with the computer/CM system and either Stihl or the dealers won't take care of it under warranty.
I promise you its the dealers. When I worked for and repaired stihl they would go beyond what tjey had to, to make the customer happy. Your dealer just has to make the call.

I spent seven years at two dealerships. The first (Stihl/Echo) wouldn't warranty anything themselves; they were mostly a lawn and garden shop that sold some saws, mostly smaller and mid-sized saws. The second shop (Stihl/Jonsered/Husqvarna) I worked at- we warrantied many things and took it in the shorts quite a few times to make customers happy. That shop was owned by a large logging company and we were the premier dealer for the area loggers and falling contractors. My experiences with Stihl have been a mixed bag. On a couple of occasions, they requested the customer's equipment for "research" and then never gave the equipment back or issued a refund. I have seen them go out of their way quite a few times but I've also had them tell me no on many simple, low-cost warranty fixes.

We gotta make a kit to retrofit the 661 to a non-mtronic unit....

I guess it matters what part of the country your in. Mid Atlantic Stihl never said no when I called them.

The 660 is still king I will never sell mine
Me either! Not the smoothest or fastest saw but dead nuts reliable & tough. After M/M ported mine & made the oiler somthing the EPA would cringe at, its place is safe in my stable. Much better than stock. I have resisted buying a 661 until a few factory upgrades have flushed away most of its bugs. They are close, but not quite there yet.

Saw looks great Randy.

Are you builders varying exhaust outlet size based on the exhaust durations these jugs allow, or just keeping it the same with every build? Is there a percentage you're going for, or just a "looks good"?

When you saw the jug wouldn't allow a lower exhaust, may I ask why? Did you run out of piston skirt or base thickness?

Most likely ran out of piston skirt, this jug probly started with an exhaust of 95 or 96

On the exhaust flange, I just match it to the muffler shell after the baffle is removed. Nothing special, just a simple port job.

Exactly.
