I noticed that you did not take down the pull cord assembly, flywheel, ignition module, etc. I guess that's all old hat. Something has to be. Right? Also, how easy is it to check for a good spark?
Interesting wash pattern. I'm surprised it's not more symmetrical.

MM said. "Checking for spark should be like any engine..."

"Any" engine? Typical old-fashioned spark checking does not work on M-Tronics. High-tech engines with all of these wires always amaze me. I'm not sure if they run on mixed fuel or electricity anymore.
Now a look at the muffler baffle. Just seems to be made to direct the sound toward the recoil side.

I hashed this out on the 462 muffler with a former two stroke factory tech. and he thought it was to spread the out coming charge across the entire muffler instead of going splat at the end of the can. He saw something similar and likened it to how an air foil on the back of a car works. So the exhaust rolls around the lip and disperses from going straight ahead. That was the best guess we could come up with, could be something else altogether. Stihl wouldn't have gone to the trouble for nothing, there's something to it.
Love it. Now on the exhaust port is it pretty small or did they just give it a pretty big mounting flange?And.....that's all I have for now.
On the 462, the baffle is symmetrical On the 500, the clutch side of the baffle protrudes out further which looks like it would sweep it toward the recoil side. Wonder what their reasoning is for having them different. It’s pretty clear to me what was done with that funky exhaust port on the 462. They twisted the charge and started in the port instead of in the muffler. Its twisted away form the outlet to swirl in the can, cancel noise, and possible burn any residual hydrocarbons before they are emitted. On the 462, the baffle is symmetrical On the 500, the clutch side of the baffle protrudes out further which looks like it would sweep it toward the recoil side.
