Just quick and dirty battle dress weighing with a bathroom scale as best I recall, fuels and oils around half in the saws, with bars. I don't remember actual weights, just the order they fell in. My little 357 chassis saws 24" tsu came in heavier than I expected. Will be nice to get that XS 346XP.I'm confused, did you mis-type 266 in your first post or is the 2166 comparison in addition to a 266 comparison?
I'd agree and I'm glad you mentioned the 390. Its what I was thinkingCc for cc I can’t think of one that has more low end grunt than a 288… unless you want to carry around a even older dinosaur. I’ve had my mildly ported 288 physically knock me over from the kickback when the kerf closed up. They are no joke. Closest saw to the 288 comparison wise would probably be a 064 or 385/390xp. I think the other two might be slightly quicker, but the 288 definitely has more grunt. As far as mods? I think Rattler builds a pretty mean 288. But I’m sure other people could too.
The 2100 is definitely the tractor saw imoBeastly lolView attachment 339331
Little rocket. What size is that little bar?
Some guys will complain about anything LOL! Imo 390s get a bad rap. Though mines supposed to be ported. I've run stock 288s for years, loved em. Came down to selling my 288 or 390. 390 is a smoother better production saw for today. So I kept the 390. The 7th mount is less cumbersome too, though it never bothered me. Some really good fallers here said it hung them up sometimes in Humbolts. To me, again my opinion, I would say regardless of size. To be able to be considered to tractor power, a saw would have to be able to stump trees, with at least a 32inch bar, and .404 chain. Many blaz8ng speed cutters could change opinions if they had to stump with. 404. And you know how the kerf of eucalyptus is. Redwoods ridiculous. I'm still running 3/8 mainly, but as these teeth got smaller on 3/8 I'm going to eventually go all .404 again. Now it's just a cost issue. The reason I let my 395 go, was to gain a ported 572, but also, once I had my 390, the 395 was rarely used anymore. The 390 might not grab some people, as the 395 never really grabbed me. What I mean by that is, big saw wise I consider new before 592 days. The 395 was the king, torque power etc. But to me the 390 felt slimmer lighter and less bulky. So it grabbed me. But I will say the 390 I feel is underrated. They are extremely tough, and I've cut giant wood with them.I have heard a 390 pretty much has to be ported to justify the weight. Maybe the same with the 288 but to me a 288 is fine stock (BGD) because I’m not looking for speed from it, I’m looking for grunt. My 395 is XS ported, if I want to raise heck, I will get it out.

Probably true. Even stock I loved the power. The 288s and 390s always fit me better, I liked the feel better. Like a gun I like it to feel just right. I'd still take another. But holding the 592 felt good I like the newer style revamped handles better. But still 394 395 great saws. And honestly, I should have listened to a few friends, bought another 395 instead of a 3120. For the big boy. If so I still would had one, but live and learn.Obviously you never ran a ported 395. You would have never got rid of it.
Truer words were never spoken.Obviously you never ran a ported 395. You would have never got rid of it.
You can always count on a 288https://youtube.com/shorts/4JcTOOnCtaw?feature=share
@mettee grunt! When the saw is buried in the tree, lots of chips, and you’re touching up a cut…

Both those vids are great. But yes, that 7900 is one of my favorites. If my memory serves me correctly that was @P.M.P. at the handle. I often wondered if the heavy screw adjustments were to just mess with his porter LOL!!I like this one...
288 wins for off idle grunt. Love that saw.
*up to it’s weight class in the saws I have tried which does not include many stihls.288 wins for off idle grunt. Love that saw.
