064 (edited had 046...ment 64) piston in a AM 372 52mm Top end? Cut a little popup, no base gasket? Short skirt increases intake duration ... maybe too much? Might be fun to try that.

I'm dreaming of something with a 394 top end, something small and lightweight, with all its factory covers, so no one is the wiser......

An 064 piston works good in a big bore 372 cylinder and no machine work is needed in most cases. I built two for AS members and they turned out nice with around 180PSI compression before break-in. A 272 piston in an 046/460 doesn't really make a better running saw in my experience. I'm getting ready to put a 2101XP piston and rings in a 395 that has .050 taken out of the squish band so we'll see how that ends up.

Does anybody know if the 394 crank can be pressed apart to have the rod and bearing changed?

066 in my 505 also 372BB in my 475, also can use a 064.

Lost track of the switching etc. Like building saws from boxes of mixed parts.

Not easily, but it can be done. Phil's saw shop in Florence, Oregon has one that they made a stroker crank out of.
Interesting, very interesting

What are those out of?

362 365 372

Also have some poulan cranks the big big ends go out in. Basically a husky crank too. ;)

There is a guy on my website pressing apart stihl cranks and rebuilding them with aftermarket big end bearings. Thread on it if you need a link.

Pulled from the thread to show the poulan and husky.

= I was hoping I had a 371 crank to show how close the 415-505 was. But didnt save one so here is a 372 and 505.

Site pic uploading not working here right now. Will try again later. hmmmm

I got a couple husky 460's and a 455 in a box here at the house, they are strato saws and rather than have the jug and the base plate separate like my 350, the jug and base are built together like a typical clamshell saw....

Question is, does anybody know of anything else that will fit on this chassis that would make it a non strato type saw with a cyl/base plate seperate?

I'm really liking the 372 Big bore with the 064 piston.:D seems like it has less torque than with the original piston but really flat out gets with it.:D:D
had to take out around 2mm out of the Meteor piston to make room for the wider connecting rod.after fitting in the cylinder and measuring the original piston i came up with only .001 clearance.so i spent another hour sanding the piston down to match the diameter of the old one.
also with the meteor the ring locating pins are too near the transfers on the intake side but are just right with the piston flipped around with the pins towards the exhaust.
letting it cool down now so i can take the muffler off to see if my sanding job was right.1489282222936269962309.jpg
