Just a cost of doing business, a saw is a cheap tool especially if they can pay for themselves many times over. Another bonus is it’s nice having a parts saw for the 390 if it ever needs something.

What you said earlier about swinging the big ones is dead on. Even with hardwoods over on the east coast I cut. Sometimes they just need pulled.

Just snuck this one in to get it on the ground tonight so I can just clear it tomorrow morning. Bigger silver maple. We call them swamp maple here also. Got dark quick. Won’t do that again. Anyway I might get flamed for this a little but I have used the “triple hinge” 3 or 4 times now with good success along with wedges. Seems to help steer the tree. Anyone else try it? I am a novice and have a lot to learn.

Just behind the hinge on the side you want to hold and favor the tree to that side , you make two vertical cuts about 4 inches above and below couple inches apart and it make let’s the fibers slide past one another as it holds. End up pulling some long fibers.

Practiced cutting a larger than my bar tree. Still have some work to do on keeping my back cut level to the face cut.

Something that has always helped me is to walk the tip around to the far side first then start coming back around.

Thanks' ill try that. I usually scrib a line from each side but I always end up with the bar tip too low.

I have the same problem about keeping the saw level even from the start is there and tips or tricks on how to make this ezer

What length of bar and saw? Shorter bars are harder to judge and don’t balance worth a dang for falling or honestly ever a nose heavy setup works great you can feel the level point.

Technically correct however, I never liked using an angle cut to cut the trigger. Only takes one tree to release before you've completed that type of cut or some material to stay with the log and take your saw for a ride. I prefer to come in flat and at the same plane as the bore, or slightly below.

1-2” is plenty

Put the 42 on, and find level with the saw vertically you’ll get a feel for where it is with your right palm.
