I just try keep myself safe fellas. I’ll keep my day job
The saying goes “A man has to be big enough to realize how small he is.” We can’t do everything, and knowing when to quit is a good skill to have. I don’t push limits if I don’t have to.I just try keep myself safe fellas. I’ll keep my day job
10/4 brother. Makes sense and nah I have no interest in pretending I’m a pro. No hooking tractors to leaning tree. However the cut you made makes sense to me I was just in my brain wanting the whole situation as to why. You explained perfectly and nice work. I wouldn’t have even known what to do. I learned what didn’t work for me several years ago. Ended up cutting my saw out of that pinch with a pole saw. Cause I wasn’t getting back close with a regular saw. Lesson learned Also why I go sideways with them now
I keep it pretty simple round here. East coast Delaware Maple barber chair bad around here and gum will squish down on the bar if they lean much. Other than those two usually keep it simple@jakethesnake you down under?
Might consider a sizwheel and or double hinge on your tension side if you’re going sideways. That being said not much works on brittle eucs.
Howdy Ryan. Ain't seen you in a minute.

A gap face hinge works pretty good for holding on to the stump.Took down 5 trees here for the view.View attachment 453130View attachment 453131
Then took down quite a few more for fire mitigation. We dropped them up hill and there was a big risk of the butts sliding back down into a $7M house. I tried a key cut on one but it jumped the notch. This tall hinge did much better. We butt tied them all as a backup precaution.

I am pretty sure based on a thread by an Aussie on AS and testing of my own (more tomorrow) that the best flexing hinge is a gap face with the back cut in the center of the face height wise.A gap face hinge works pretty good for holding on to the stump.
You basically plunge cut the hinge apex and then angle you top and bottom face cuts into the plunge cut. No compression in the face.
