Here's a 1 ton getting a turbo.


This has to an 06ish model
Lly or lbz, don't recall which, but no egr coolers tells me it's not an LmL.

Looks like an LBZ. LLY doesn't have the grid heater behind the alternator. I believe 06-07 were actually both LBZ platforms with 06 just being called LLY in spirit. I believe all Duramax generations have an EGR cooler though, most people just remove/block them off. I know LLY and on have the coolers, at least.

Federal emissions LB7's had no EGR, California emissions trucks did with a vacuum pump.

That’s an LBZ, ficm right I front of the air intake and the intake has a big dumb curve in it, 06 Lly’s have a more straight tube

Ok kids, let's finish this pig.

There's a few things I backtracked on, removed that were already installed to make things simpler.


So, install this brake link.


Followed by the spring.
You'll need to pay attention to the hooks on the spring as they are slightly offset and you'll need to have it offset towards the lug in the case. If not, it will just pop off.



Next, the linkage goes into the brake handle with the longer portion oriented towards the bottom of the case.


You'll need to line up the handle, link and depending on how warn the spring and handle are you may need to slightly push the inner link down to get it to line up.

Make sure the brake handle and linkage all works like it's supposed to..





And bolt it to the recoil


Hook the brake band to the linkage.


And push it into the case and seat it behind the case lugs.

Install the band retaining bolt in the bottom of the case.



Install the spring.
There's special tools. I use vice grips.
Also as a side note, anytime messing with the brake, take out the clutch drum..gives the band room to move and makes life easier.



Install the upper cover


And the lower cover

At this point, the brake is applied.
Pull back and release it.



Locate the oil pump drive tang


Grease the bearing


Line up the drum and drop it on.


Follow it with the rim sprocket, washer and E clip

Install the bar plate




Install the top cover.
It can be done with the spark plug installed.
It's easier with it removed.


Install the air baffle and screw on the filter cover.

And on goes a bar and chain..
This didn't have a clutch cover when I got it. The one I was going to use didn't work the the longer shoulder studs on this saw.
I just robbed my MS441c cover for now.

I'll countersink drill the other cover to fit later, something I didn't think about and Al suggested to me.

Now there's probably just as many opinions on break in as oil and ratios.
I've always been a subscriber to "use it like it's going to be used".

First cuts, didn't touch the carb. It popped in 5 pulls, was running in 6.

Wood is frozen oak.

Nice job! Excellent thread on assembly and easy to follow. I’m sure many people with limited experience will find this very helpful.

Side note: newbies may not realize this, but it takes about 5 fuel tanks worth of run time for the saw to “wake up” after a rebuild.
