you can walk in my Husqvarna dealer here and the redmax shelves are always bare because the products are sold out.
he just can't hardly sell a Husqvarna trimmer or blower.

But, I bet he has no trouble selling Husky chainsaws. They already tried Redmax saws here and the only one that had some semblance of popularity was the top handle--ironically, usually dressed up as a Husky or Jonny. I still don't understand how being a popular weedeater/blower line will automatically lead to success with chainsaws. They've already tried that and failed.

Is the thinking that scuttling Jonsered will magically create a demand for Redmax saws? I know I am belaboring the point but that is all I can come up with. Redmax owners who want a saw are not going to pass up Stihl or Husky for the same or nearly the same price. Redmax will have to undercut them in price by a noticeable margin or offer something no one else has- which has already been tried before.

They might just use the Redmax name for pro trimmers , blowers and such and not have any saws ? There is no money in the cheap consumer stuff .

I'm thinking the Redmax brand will only be the small homeowner clam saws and leave the Husky brand with a full lineup from 235 to 3120. Thinking about the points made about the already established market share Redmax has with blowers and wackers, I don't see those types of businesses/users looking for an $800 70cc saw.. I see them more or less going for the roughly 40cc, $300 saws to have something on the truck to handle the occasional trimming work encountered in your average day as a landscaper.

Still, I think it sucks... First saw my Dad let me run as a kid was his Johnny-Red

redmax always had better blowers and trimmers than Husqvarna come dream up if it wasn't for Husqvarna buying redmax none of there xtorq stuff would existent

I agree with that. Nobody, and I mean nobody, uses Husky blowers or weedeaters for a living around here. It's nearly all Stihl, Shindaiwa, Echo, and some Redmax. Their riding mowers are horrendously overpriced and quite flimsy.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was talking about their standard riding mowers not the zero turns. My stepdad paid like $2000.00 for a Husky riding mower. It had a hydro transaxle, 23 hp Briggs, and 48" cut as I remember. Biggest POS ever, one thing after another kept breaking on it. The wheels were very flimsy and would let the tries slip their beads alot. He finally got rid of it when the transaxle died. Lowe's actually let him return it on a Troy Bilt.

Husky lawn tractor are identical in every way except color scheme with the larger Craftsman tractors. Same tractors made by the same company. Lowes Troybilt are MTD. I use to be a service tech and worked on many of them

Some thoughts on this:

The largest group of end users for OPE are landscapers, municipalities, school systems, government facilities, farms ranches, etc.

The products that sell the most are trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers. These are used daily for most of the year in most markets, seasonally in others. With all the use, the OPE gets broken faster, worn out quicker, more maintenance, etc. So upgrades are made often, sometimes before a piece of equipment is even a year old.

Chainsaws last the average company, person for many years or lifetime depending on use.

What this equates to in my mind is if I can grow my business that already has a good to great market share / name recognition and sales volume -Redmax-, vs Jonsered as we know is primarily known for chainsaws, marginal regional name recognition, sales volume??

Economies of scale, its always easier and cheaper to keep existings markets / purchasers happy and coming back in your store as opposed to taking a product not known as well and trying to create hype with marketing, sales people, balancing inventory to possible sales, etc.

Like it or not, Redmax has the market share existing currently over Jonsered and maybe Husqvarna for 2 cycle products (not chainsaws) Jonsered had a good run, time for Redmax to shine on its own merit.

Bingo Jake . Lots of the blowers are vitually identical (bts 570 vs 7500) yet the redmax will outsell the husky by 10x. The marketing guys know most average landscapers who, let's face it, is where the profits are, will purchase by brand loyalty. A tree service guy will ONLY buy his brand and mostly only from his dealership. Parts interchangeability and service needs are paramount. Most landscapers will just buy another saw when needed.

I don't think it's necessary to keep making excuses for Husqvarna's problems. The little issues with quality control have been throughly documented no matter what color the OPE is. The lack of decent distributors and coherence in the lines are also well known. You could say that as long as we want to run Jonsered saws we will have plenty to run just no new models....but let's not casually write Johnny Red off and comfort Corporate Husky as if they are some imperfect entity.

If the day ever comes when my little fleet of 80's and 90's riding mowers finally disintegrates into space dust, I'll probably go with Deere or Simplicity/Massey Ferguson.

Got some more info and this is totally confirmed.

And it's the pro saws, not the homeowner stuff. Only plastic saw will be the top handle T-435.

But here's a head scratcher for ya: TSC will still get the consumer Jonsered saws, and that's where the clamshell models will be.

The new saws actually look pretty cool. More than just sticking a Red Max decal on a Jonsered. And it's the pro saws, not the homeowner stuff. Only plastic saw will be the top handle T-435.
