In the re-cap by D-Dave, and I’m certainly not calling out Dave, John claimed Ken contacted him to buy the saw then asked for it not ported, this was the original, not the second generation.
To your question... why was a cylinder sent the second time with no base cut, no band cut, no port widening or timing changes made?
If it all just doesn’t add up, we’re on the same page.
I don't know anybody involved but.
I'm of the mind it's not the saw he believed he purchased at all.
he should just refund
The money and everyone can move on.

Last time I heard you interpreting I wasn't sure whether you were translating beer or whiskey, maybe it was the NY accent that confused me o_O:pancarta:.

Hope this gets ironed out, and real soon.
I was outside of my jurisdiction and off duty, don’t tell me how to do my job, Bub.

Quoted two posts above. One with questions, one that generates more questions.
Ken’s first posts illustrate a ported Meteor cylinder with band cut. These pics are the original cylinder sent on the saw. This cylinder clearly hung a ring, pics of ring visible through spark plug hole and pics of spark plug prove that it was not a lean seize.
Hmmmmm.... Didn’t John say that Ken requested a non ported, stock cylinder and that’s what he sent?
Strange....
Shall I go on? I can...
I don't have any further or first hand knowledge on the situation. I hope John does get logged in and provide his side of the story and Ken is made whole. I like and trust Dave and his observations.

This is John Reilly. Thank you Dave for helping me out with getting logged in..

This is my first opportunity to respond to these alleged posts and accusations.

It is a bit unfair to have a person under attack or to damage a reputation and character through slander and without hearing both sides. I have been doing this for 7 years, and have never had issues with anyone - on the contrary.

I never claimed I would not make good in a refund, no matter the circumstance either way. Right is Right!!!

Here are the issues:

The saw I had purchased from Dave Smith is in fact a Brazilian Stihl MS460 - OEM crank shaft... so on.

When the saw came back to me after I agreed to repair it the meteor cylinder failed. I did everything I could to locate an OEM 460 cylinder. Ultimately, I used the best of the 2 that I could locate at that time from very reputable people. While all is irrelevant at this time, I was more than happy to make it right and refund rather than go around and around and asked that he wait until I was able to sell the saw for the refund, in which case seemed to be ok!

Here's where it becomes a bigger issue. Finding out from another friend that this thread or feed was going on without my knowledge and seeing the slander and deffimation of character going on, without even knowing both sides of the ENTIRE story, just blows me away and shows me what I was dealing with all along.

I have always had great and positive people and business associates. I have always done right, and will continue on that path. Anyone who wants to feed into a here say thread, it's now on them.

Please remember there are always 2 sides to every story. This thread is way too much, I cant believe this has gone on the way it has. Again, I never said I would not refund this guy!!!

At the end of the day, this saw came back to me after they had their way with it, missing parts, cylinder was way over tightened and who knows what transpired when it was taken apart! Just sayin'....

Everyone is willing to hear your side of the story. The delayed response probably fueled negative suspicions, however , I would like to hear your side.

I like pie!!!

Considering that it took ten days for you to care enough to reply in person is not helping your reputation John. The very day that this thread surfaced, you called me, and I replied in a text message that you needed to reply here.

Lock it mods. Send money John. Move on everybody...

Well.....one fella says one thing, a few others say another. Chances are good that's all we will ever have.

If anyone directly involved has anything to add, do it now.

I'll lock this at noon my time.

I must have overlooked it, but what was the initial cause to the seize??? I see where the op stated it made it 3 tanks.

Just curious....

How long is warranty on a used saw???

Imo that should be something discussed between the builder and client on each of these saws. A builder should not be obligated to provide a lifetime warranty. However, it's on the builder and client to make sure they are clear what that warranty should cover if anything at all.

So much of this comes down to clear communication. If John had been on here early to communicate his side of the story maybe the thread would have gone differently.
