I've been pondering this for awhile. The 7900 is notorious for having a small case for a 79cc saw. It likes 30ish° of blowdown. Is there any merit to the thought that: given the small case, not much fuel/air mix can get in there. Therefore the lower the transfers are (physically), the less distance the fuel/air mixture has to flow to get from the case to on top of the piston? Basically, the longer the transfers are, the more charge is left in them and not making it to the cylinder wall. My theory may be blown all to hell though when you factor in another revolution or 2 or....1,000,000

2/3rds of saw building is 1/2 luck.

Ha!!! I like that.

Kevin, the tighter the case is, the more quickly the air/fuel mixture reacts to movement of the piston. Think of the air as a compressible, stretchable substance.....

Does that make any sense?

I'm tearing down two saws at a time, doing the machine work, then the port work, and finally the mufflers. I try to stay on them till they are done. That's not leaving me much free time during the day. I wish I had more time to be on here talking theory. I love doing that. It never gets old.

I'm just glad that I'm only on the trigger pulling end of all this stuff, and equally glad that I've been afforded the opportunity to pull the trigger on work from all of you!!!

Keep up the great work guys, a combo of mechanical skill, theory and luck!
